What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality & Sensory Assessment Specialist - Sprouts Brand position at Sprouts Farmers Market?
This role will help execution of Sprouts Brand (SB) Quality management to drive SB quality perception. Assist in creating and delivering an in depth sensory and quality assessment program for all SB products, including those items on shelf, in development and those with any complaints. Will be part of the team assessing quality of all non-perishable SB items and working in partnership with the Sprouts Culinary team for Fresh item quality assessment.
This role will set up and assist in the management of quality and sensory panels and will ensure the efficient operation of the Sensory Kitchen and associated Presentation room facilities, including set up, operation and clean down of sensory kitchen area. Assist in creation of quality specifications for Sprouts Brand products.
This role may at times be involved with assisting maintaining product packaging & labeling consistency.
Overview of Responsibilities
- Support the efficient operation of the Sensory Kitchen and Presentation room – ensuring equipment and facilities are kept clean, operational and organized.
- Set up, and as relevant lead the execution of sensory and quality panels
- Preparation of food and beverage samples and products being assessed
- Testing preparation and cooking instructions for food and beverages including testing recipes for ingredients e.g. baking a cake using SB flour
- Collaborate in designing appropriate quality & sensory tests relevant to the products.
- Set up and create sensory tests using cloud based sensory software. Make appropriate recommendations based on analysis
- Perform data statistical analysis and write reports as needed.
- Maintain records of panel attendance and administer panel information.
- Actively participate in panels helping to guide teams in sensory best tasting practices and provide actionable feedback
- Maintain materials for the Sensory kitchen and panels including regular inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Organize storage of samples and product submissions, ensuring adherence to correct storage conditions and shelf life.
- Coordinate organization and scheduling of all sensory activities
- Shop for any samples and items as required for panels.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- BS in food science, sensory evaluation, sensory science, consumer science, marketing research, nutrition highly preferred with 1-3 years applied sensory experience.
- Working knowledge of computers and of dedicated software for sensory evaluation (e.g., Red Jade)
- Working knowledge of discrimination, descriptive and Quality Assurance sensory methods
- Proficiency in statistical analysis and interpretation of sensory tests
- Product knowledge of grocery industry
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to preserve confidentiality of information, communicate with all levels of management and work within strict time frames and resolute deadlines
- Thorough understanding Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to collaborate and work effectively with multiple stakeholders
- Interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Detail orientated
- Must be fluent in oral and written English and be able to report and understand scientific data.
