Job Title: GIS Data Coordinator

SUMMARY: The GIS Data Coordinator is responsible for the development, maintenance, and support for geographic information systems utilized by the tribe. To be successful in this position one must have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a knack for software development. The ideal candidate will promote the use of tribal GIS systems, and be enthusiastic in all efforts of support and training.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
● Assess GIS needs of tribal operations and develop actionable proposals to address these needs. This includes the need for data, data access, and data security using industry best practices.
● Plan, design, build, and maintain tribal GIS databases, tools, applications, cartography and resources from the ground-up using ArcGIS Enterprise suite and applying sound database design principles.
● Consolidate existing data from various sources (PDFs, CAD drawings, utility / third-party data, photographs, etc.) into tribal GIS.
● Collect location data of exterior utilities, structures, and topographical information using GPS tools.
● Develop maps for use by departments and third parties in support of tribal programs and operational objectives,
● Develop tribal standards related to the use and implementation of GIS.
● Manage GIS projects from start to finish.
● Research, procure, and operate GIS hardware and software.
● Train users in the use of GIS hardware and software.
● Respond to requests for GIS mapping, data, and assistance from a variety of tribal departments.
● Serve as tribe’s subject matter expert on GIS topics.
● Engage in professional development to remain up-to-date on current technologies and industry trends.
● Strong knowledge of GIS principles and best practices.
● Strong knowledge of Esri GIS software suite.
● Knowledge of virtual servers and storage concepts on a Microsoft enterprise.
● Skilled at using database design principles to build an enterprise GIS from the ground-up and managing an ArcGIS Enterprise deployment.
● Skilled at developing procedures and applications that will ensure data quality.
● Skilled at collecting and processing data collected via GPS, remote sensing, and other means, for inclusion in the GIS Enterprise System.
● Skilled at analyzing data and producing dashboards and infographics to communicate data.
● Skilled at developing clear, usable maps in various formats, including web mapping applications for use on both desktop and mobile applications. Good knowledge of cartographic principles and ability to make informative maps and applications.
● Good communication skills (oral and written) and good interpersonal and organizational skills, with a professional demeanor and strong personal ethics.
● Good time management skills, with the ability to take ownership and complete assigned tasks.
● Detail oriented, with good problem-solving skills and with the ability to anticipate and provide solutions that result in gained efficiencies in business processes and improved customer service.
● Follow good development practice and procedures including source code documentation and management.
● Maintain technical documentation such as help desk tickets, reports, procedures, and more.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: MA OR Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of experience in related field. OR Associate degree and a minimum of four years experience in information technology field OR High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of six years’ experience in information technology field.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid driver’s license. GISP certification or similar ArcGIS certification strongly preferred.
