Who is SSP?

Senior Aerospace SSP, specializes in designing, manufacturing, and qualifying complex ducting systems for aerospace applications. Since its humble roots in 1945, the campus has now expanded to include a 59,000 sq. ft high-volume production facility, in addition to its legacy 131,000 ft2 main buildings which combined, accommodate over 500 employees. Vertically integrated with its own foundry, fabrication shop, and ISO certified engineering lab, Senior Aerospace SSP acquired by Senior PLC in 1995 and has continued its expansion into new programs and technologies.

What does the job involve?

Summary: Requires the finish-forming, measuring and scribing, trimming, fitting, aligning, assembling and setting up of sheet, tubular, machined or formed parts with or without templates, jigs or holding fixtures to blueprint dimensions preparatory to welding and the straightening and aligning of warped assemblies and parts after welding.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:

• Fabricates sheet metal parts and finishes products.
• Performs such typical operations as drilling, trimming, filing, grinding parts to blueprint, without jigs or holding fixtures involving several location points to exacting tolerances.
• Deburring to remove burrs and break any sharp edges on applicable jobs; and trim to mill fixtures as required.
• Performs rework, repair and other associated operations relating to the work described.
• Follow all Senior policies and procedure.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

• High School Degree or General Education Degree; or 1 year of related experience and/ or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skills:

• Language: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply a general understanding to carry out detailed, written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Mathematical Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must be able to use shop math.
• Other Abilities: Must be able to read and interpret blueprints. This individual will make layouts for the location of holes and cut outs. Must fabricate details to blueprints without templates, jigs, or holding fixtures. Knows how to perform all work required in lower classifications to have knowledge of the forming characteristics of metals. Must be familiar with inspection requirements.

Tools used:

• Uses all hand tools, portable tools, stationary tools and tooling necessary to perform sheet metal fabrications; also, such tools as air motors, metal shrinkers and expanders, gauges and other general shop tools. Uses measuring instruments, hand snips, jigs and fixtures, mandrels, dollies, bumpers. Must have complete set of work tools provided by the company to perform the work covered by the classification.

Materials used:

• Emery cloth, Ferrous and non-ferrous metals and their alloys in the form of sheet tubular stock, and formed parts.
