Job Description:
General Objectives:
The Surveyor is an hourly position and typically works 10 hr days on an 8 day on and 6 day off rotation on site. The role works to achieve operational targets within technical areas which has direct impact on the overall achievement results for the department. This position will primarily be responsible for Surveying in the field. Placing stakes and painting control for operations. They will also conduct drone flights for photogrammetry surveys.
Key Areas of Responsibilities & Duties:
The key responsibilities of the Surveyor include, but are not limited to the following:
- Set up and utilize survey instrumentation; GPS, Total Station, Laser, Drone and survey software such as AutoCad and TopCon Magnet Field survey software that is required for the collection or layout of survey data in the field.
- Perform staking activities including grade elevation, ore control and mining limits.
- Perform drone flights for photogrammetry surveys.
- Perform surveys to locate utility locations such as underground electric and water lines.
- Record collected survey data in the proper drawings and files in the computer network.
- Perform surveys for construction projects including staking, grade control and scanning for volumetric calculations.
- Be able to relay information or observations to appropriate departments to make sure the operation stays within permitted boundaries.
- Perform other assignments as directed to meet business needs.
Required Skills:
- Must be able to communicate effectively, in English using all standard forms of business communication.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Clear understanding and willingness to observe and practice company SOPs and policies.
- Must be able to apply technical information from a variety of sources and demonstrate a proficiency in analysis and methods to facilitate the decision making.
- Ability to work rotating schedules that span across weekends.
- Ability to physically traverse uneven ground with survey equipment in adverse weather conditions.
- Work with minimal direction, prioritize and deliver on customer requirements.
- Drone license – preferred
- Ability to safely lift 40 lbs.
Required Experience:
- 1 – 3 years of Survey experience is a plus. - preferred
- Knowledge of survey safety and standard practices. - preferred
- Associate degree in a related field. - preferred
- Proficient with the set-up and operation of instrumentation required for the collection or layout of survey data in the field. - preferred
- Demonstrable knowledge of computer applications related to CAD and MS Office Suite - preferred.
- Experience in mining environment. – preferred
- AutoCAD Experience - preferred
- Experience with survey data collector software - preferred
- Experience with Drone Surveying - preferred
