What are the responsibilities and job description for the Physical Therapy Director of Clinical Education position at St. Ambrose University?
The St. Ambrose University Physical Therapy Department in Davenport, IA invites qualified applicants to apply for a part-time (0.7 FTE) Director of Clinical Education (DCE) faculty position. This is a 12-month position and would start on June 1, 2025. Candidates will be joining a well-established department focused on enriching the lives of others to positively impact the Physical Therapy profession and society. In addition to our Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, the department administrates both Orthopedic and Pediatric Clinical Residencies in Physical Therapy.
Minimally qualified applicants will be licensed as a physical therapist, possess a doctoral degree (i.e., a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree or a terminal academic degree), and have at least five years of clinical practice experience. Well qualified candidates will have extensive experience as a Clinical Instructor and / or Site Coordinator of Clinical Education. Collaborating with the full-time co-DCE and Clinical Education Office, responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to :
- Administrating the clinical education component of the professional (entry-level) DPT Program curriculum.
- Procuring, evaluating, and maintaining an appropriate number and variety of contracted clinical education sites, including necessary clinical instructors, to support the growing needs of the DPT program while remaining aligned with CAPTE compliance criteria.
- Collaborating with the Health Sciences Contract Coordinator to manage all physical therapy contract and site requirements between the university and clinical sites.
- Arranging for student selection of, and placement in, clinical settings as outlined in program requirements.
- Coordinating student participation in clinical education courses, including but not limited to, communication with clinical education sites and instructors, evaluating students and clinical instructors, and assigning student grades.
- Co-coordinating all clinical and didactic courses related to clinical education in the program.
- Maintaining, in a secure and confidential manner, all student health and compliance records related to Clinical Education.
- Supervising graduate assistants and staff who assist the DCEs.
- Collaborating with individuals at the state and national level with respect to best practices as they relate to Clinical Education.
Beyond the role as director of clinical education, additional responsibilities include advising students, serving on department and university committees, and developing and maintaining a scholarly agenda. Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching and scholarship will enhance the candidate's application. This is a clinical faculty position, with faculty rank being commensurate with the applicant's credentials and experience.
