Description
Objective: To support the Head of Lower School in providing educational leadership to faculty, and to serve as the primary oversight of the Early Childhood Center (ECC).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the Head of Lower School in providing strategic leadership for the ECC.
- Collaborate with the Director of Foundations and Head of Lower School to maintain congruence between the school’s mission and all activities of Foundations, ECC, and Lower School.
- Supervise, observe, and evaluate early childhood faculty and staff under the direction of the Head of Lower School.
- Serve as the chief articulator of the early childhood programs, expectations, behavioral guidelines, and other information necessary to ensure that all constituencies are fully informed consistent with their individual roles.
- Collaborate with the Director of Foundations and Head of Lower School to support faculty in creating a positive, effective, and orderly classroom environment.
- Observe and serve as a consultant to ECC and LS faculty in matters of development and implementation of curriculum, classroom management, teaching methods, and general school procedures.
- Work with the Head of Lower School to respond to student discipline issues in a timely, proactive manner and maintain up-to-date records.
- Communicate with parents/guardians to build a strong school-parent/guardian relationship in order to help students solve problems.
- Serve on the Lower School student support services team as well as coordinate and keep records from weekly meetings.
- Coordinate parent coffees on various topics throughout the year in collaboration with the student support services team.
- Support the Head of Lower School and Director of Human Resources with the hiring process for ECC and LS faculty and staff.
- Participate in grade level meetings.
- Serve as the Acting Head of Lower School in the Head’s absence.
- Chair the annual May Day planning.
- Assist the Office of Admission in the admission process and serve on the retention committee.
- Serve on appropriate committees.
- Stay current on trends in independent schools and curriculum by taking an active role in professional activities and attending relevant professional meetings and conferences.

This job operates in a professional school environment.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time, twelve-month position. Limited travel and occasional weekend and evening work will be required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
- A minimum of five years of teaching and/or educational leadership experience preferred.
- Represent the school in the larger community in a positive manner that reflects the values of the school.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective, professional relationships with students, faculty, administrators, parents, alumni, and guests.
- High degree of cultural competency and demonstrated success in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Self-motivated with the ability to handle multiple, simultaneous, and complex projects
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency in Google Suite required.
