Position Description
Reporting to the Head of School, the Director of Advancement works closely with the Head of School and the Board of Trustees, including staffing the Advancement Committee. The Director of Advancement provides visionary leadership to the development, constituent relations (parents, grandparents, alumni parents, alumni and friends), and communications and marketing programs in support of the school’s mission, vision, and goals. Serves as liaison to the Parents Association.

Position Description

Specific Responsibilities Include
- Provides support to the Head of School to fulfill advancement responsibilities, ensuring prudent use of their time.
- Oversees alumni and constituent relations efforts to establish and strengthen ties with the School’s constituents, including alumni, parents, grandparents, alumni parents, and friends.
- Oversees fundraising activities designed to attract private funds to support the School’s priorities and strategic initiatives.
- Leads strategic planning for advancement which is driven by and supports the School’s strategic plan, priorities, and goals.
- Establishes organizational structure for the advancement department and supervises personnel.
- Ensures that each staff member has an annual performance plan and performance standard, and monitors progress in achieving performance standards.
- Develops an ongoing professional development program for staff.
- Develops policy and directs the ongoing activities of development, alumni relations and communications as they relate to defined goals, procedures, staffing, budget, and timetables.
- Assists the Head in providing support to the Board of Trustees and its committees, including utilizing the talents and ideas of the Board to expand St. Anne’s fundraising efforts.
- Develop strong working relationships with the Board members and other key constituents of St. Anne’s Episcopal School.
- Provides periodic analysis of advancement program results and status to the Head and the Board of Trustees.
- Serves as the liaison to the Parents Association.
- Develops relationships, solicits, and stewards major gift prospects and donors.
- Facilitates relationships between potential and current donors and the Head, Board of Trustees, and others as appropriate.
- Assists prospective donors and their advisors in clarifying gift planning goals, presenting appropriate proposals, and completing major gift agreements.
- Finalizes specific strategies for the cultivation and solicitation of major donor prospects.
- Develops long-range plans for current and prospective donors' involvement in the life of the School.
- Manage all day-to-day elements of the annual giving team
- Supervise Annual Giving team members
- Oversee the creation of solicitation and acknowledgment letters
- Manage annual giving volunteers, including the Annual Giving Committee, to maximize their contribution and personal giving
- Oversees budget for program and performs ongoing tracking of expenses and revenue.
- Serves as the liaison to the Finance department to ensure records reconcile with accounting records.
- Work collaboratively with the Marketing and Communications team to create and manage a comprehensive fundraising plan and appeal schedule for annual giving; smaller nonprofits may require the director to lead content production for appeals as well as strategy.
- Set dollar, participation, and qualitative goals for the program
- Drive strategy for the development and execution of a calendar of multidimensional appeals that leverage a variety of media to communicate with potential and current donors
- Drive strategy for the development and execution of a calendar of events to engage donors and elevates their giving
- Track the progress of appeals to determine effectiveness and ROI
- Conduct regular segmentation and data analyses to help inform new strategies for activating donors
- Ten years of progressively more responsible experience in advancement.
- Impressive track record in fundraising, communications and/or alumni administration.
- Proven track record of creatively building and leading successful organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to improve the effectiveness of an organization.
- Deep appreciation and understanding of the School’s mission and the ability to articulate its values and vision internally and externally.
- Capacity to contribute to the overall strategic planning of the School.
- Ability to conceptualize, plan, and implement a cohesive strategy for advancement.
- Strong oral communication skills and a sophisticated understanding of what should be communicated to different audiences, from parents to alumni to prospective students to various media outlets.
- Outstanding writing skills.
- A thorough grasp of the current trends in advancement and the issues facing independent schools.
- Ability to work effectively with volunteers and boards.
- Ability to assert visionary leadership that inspires and motivates others.
