The parish youth ministry program is based on the USCCB document, Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry. The goals of youth ministry are to: 1. Call young people to be disciples of Jesus Christ; 2. Draw young people into the life, work, and mission of the faith community; 3. Foster the total personal and spiritual growth of young people; 4. Enable our young people to become happy, healthy, and holy adults.
Summary:
The Youth Ministry Coordinator needs to be a person who exhibits a strong Christian character that demonstrates a close relationship with God through personal devotion, worship, and prayer life. He/she must have a solid understanding of the foundation of the Catholic faith with a strong desire to nurture young people in this faith. He/she must be enthusiastic, have high energy and be a self-starter, and an encourager. This person needs to work cooperatively with the Pastor and the parish staff. Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters.
Responsibilities:
1. Youth Ministry
- Develop and implement a Youth Ministry Program.
- Create and develop a core group and provide for its enrichment.
- Develop leadership skills in youth and young adults.
- Develop a network for reaching out to youth, particularly the alienated.
- Supervise and train retreat teams to provide retreats for teens.
- Coordinate the parish vocational programs with the diocesan vocational office.
2. Coordinate Youth Activities
- Encourage young people to participate in all facets of the life of the community of faith, including going to Mass regularly, choirs, educational opportunities, and youth activities.
- Work in collaboration with other parish staff in scheduling, visioning, planning and implementing activities, events and processes that overlaps into other areas of other staff responsibility.
- Develop relationships with parents to provide guidance in the whole family system as needed.
- Coordinate youth activities with the other Ministries of the St. Anthony Claret Catholic Community.
- Maintain regular communication with teens and their families through bulletin, mailing and contact opportunities.
3. Administration
- Maintain a budget and functional youth ministry office; prepare, submit, and administer a proposed budget each year, maintain accurate financial records as required by parish policy.
- Participate in staff meetings.
- Designs and maintains filing and record keeping system for the youth ministry programs.
- Become acquainted with and follows office procedures in the parish.
- Engage in ongoing professional formation; keep informed of trends in youth ministry.
- Participate in diocesan workshops and seminars as needed and related to youth ministry.
- Participate in the parish registration process, and maintain accurate records on youth and their families.
4. Other Duties as Related and Assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in related field such as theology, pastoral ministry, etc.
- Previous experience working with young adults and children
- Background and knowledgeable of the Catholic faith
