St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica School, a school in the second year of its transition to a Classical Catholic school, is seeking a dedicated and passionate History Teacher to join our faculty. Requirements:Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Development & Instruction:
- Teach a history curriculum that reflects the classical education approach, focusing on primary sources, critical thinking, and the integration of Catholic moral and ethical teachings.
- Teach history at various grade levels with a focus on Ancient, Medieval, Renaissance, Modern, and American history.
- ?Foster a deep understanding of historical events, figures, and cultural developments while promoting an appreciation for the Church’s role in shaping history.
- Incorporate interdisciplinary approaches, including literature, philosophy, and theology, into history lessons where appropriate.
- Classroom Environment:
- Create a classroom atmosphere that is nurturing, respectful, and conducive to learning, while encouraging intellectual curiosity and academic excellence.
- Engage students through dynamic lectures, discussions, and projects, encouraging them to think critically about history and its relevance to their lives today.
- Use a variety of teaching strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students, fostering an environment where all students can thrive.
- Student Engagement:
- Develop students’ analytical and writing skills through essays, research projects, and presentations.
- Encourage students to explore and debate the moral and ethical implications of historical events from a Catholic worldview.
- Incorporate Catholic teachings, prayer, and reflection into the classroom environment, helping students see the connection between their faith and their academic studies.
- Assessment & Feedback:
- Regularly assess student progress through tests, quizzes, assignments, and class participation.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and families regarding academic progress and areas for improvement.
- Maintain a gradebook and communicate effectively with students and parents about academic performance.
- Collaboration & Professional Development:
- Collaborate with other faculty members to ensure a cohesive, interdisciplinary approach to the curriculum.
- Participate in faculty meetings, school events, and professional development opportunities to grow as an educator and stay informed on educational best practices.
- Engage in ongoing personal professional development, particularly in Catholic education and classical pedagogy.
Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in History, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Certification in Education (if required by the state) and/or teaching credentials.
- Previous teaching experience, preferably in a classical or Catholic school setting, is highly desirable.
- Skills & Attributes:
- Deep knowledge and passion for history, particularly with an emphasis on Western civilization, classical education, and Catholic thought.
- Ability to present historical material in an engaging, thought-provoking, and accessible manner.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly explain complex ideas.
