SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR
FULL-TIME SEASONAL POSITION
Job Summary:
This is a seasonal, full-time position of five weeks, during which the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum hosts the Nation’s Oldest Port Summer Camp Program. The Summer Camp Counselor supervises campers, leads lessons, and ensures a fun, memorable experience for students in grades 1st-4th.
Major Responsibilities:
- Supervise campers daily and during weekly field trips.
- Lead lessons and programs for summer camp sessions in tandem with a second counselor.
- Provide and support class management for positive group interaction.
- Organize materials and supplies.
- Attend required training session(s).
- Teach individual sessions and make individual presentations.
- Assist with the weekly transition between summer camp sessions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
A minimum of 1 year of experience in Elementary Education and/or Early Childhood Education (ECPC) is required. FTCE certification preferred—ability to work in a flexible and fast-paced environment. Excellent communication skills are required.
Essential Functions/Physical Requirements:
The duties above indicate the essential functions of the job. Must be able to climb the lighthouse tower and perform required duties in all types of weather. Operational flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable business needs. Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds.
