What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assessment Service Clerk/Personal Property-Assessor's Office position at St. Charles County Government?
This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position which includes a full range of benefits including Paid Time Off, Extended Medical Leave, Holidays, Employee Health, Dental, Life, Disability, Retirement, and Tuition Assistance programs.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this position is to assist taxpayers with routine questions, and process personal property assessments through performing data entry and filing. This position acts under the supervision of the Personal Property Administrator.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receives calls and emails from property owners to answer inquires and assist as needed.
- Acts as a backup to assists property owners at the customer service window as needed.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Research property owner’s history to determine eligibility of a Certificate of Non-Assessment/Waiver
- Accurately file property owner’s personal property assessment(s).
- Maintain an understanding of vehicle titling and registration of owned and leased vehicles in the State of Missouri.
- Maintain an understanding of titles, title receipts, title applications, vehicle renew notices, vehicle registration documents and military documents.
- Assist business owners by issuing a Certificate of Non-Assessment/Waiver or filing an Assessment.
- Performs data entry of all assessments received annually by May 1st of the current tax year.
- Verifies previously entered data.
- Maintain a high-volume workload in a fast-paced environment.
- Copy/Scan documents and correspondence.
- Organize and archive assessment records.
- Stock office supplies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
Education
- General/technical high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Additional clerical training required.
Job Experience
- 1-3 years of experience
- One to two years experience in the clerical field.
Requires successful completion of computerized clerical skills testing as follows:
- Data Entry - 4500 KSPH
- Basic Math - 80%
- Customer Service - 80%
