Job Summary – About the Role
Deliver high quality recreation services for residents, visitors and the St. Charles community by adhering to the District’s safety and administrative policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
This position is well suited for someone with a pleasant personality with a positive attitude.
Required: High School Diploma or in process. Minimum 16 years of age. Work record that shows reliability, initiative, tact, organizational skills, honesty and productivity. Must be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe swimming environment for all patrons and staff. Must have strong interpersonal skills and work well with the public and other staff. Must be detail oriented with the ability to process information accurately, and use independent judgment when needed. Must have or complete Mandated Reporter certification within 30 days of hire date.
Essential Functions of the Position

- Follow all departmental safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of Park District’s safety and risk management program.
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with residents, colleagues, the public, PDRMA and other agencies or organizations as delegated.
- Recommends improvements and efficiencies to better accomplish individual and district goals in the best interests of the St. Charles Park District community.
- Comply with park district policies and administrative procedures.
Responsibilities
Under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent of Recreation, Assistant Superintendent of Recreation, Facilities Manager, Aquatics, RVMG and Haines Manager, Aquatics and youth Programs Supervisor, Pool Manager, and the Assistant Pool Manager, the Pool Maintenance attendant shall complete assigned duties to the best of their abilities, offering suggestions of better ways to accomplish jobs and be ever mindful of the best interests of the St. Charles Park District and of fellow employees. This position requires extensive knowledge and ability to:
- Demonstrate ability to work independently or with limited direction; anticipate needs for successful operation of facility.
- Maintain a professional appearance and attitude while performing duties, and while on park district premises.
- Abide by uniform standards while on duty.
- Check facility for vandalism and damage, notifying supervisor if vandalism has been found.
- Check filtration system to assure it is functioning properly when assigned.
- Inspect and clean each of the following areas on a daily basis: Bathrooms, locker rooms, outdoor deck areas, walkways, grassy areas, front entry, parking lot, sand volleyball, and sand play area and follow special instructions as given.
- Perform daily cleaning of assigned areas to help maintain overall cleanliness of facility. Equipment may include use of; pressure washer, leaf blower and gas powered pool vacuum.
- Keep pool deck clean and free of debris and lost and found articles.
- Keep all drains in the bathrooms and on the deck clear.
- Keep waste receptacles clean and empty.
- Perform basic water chemistry tests and properly record pool chemical levels.
- Maintain cleanliness in all filter rooms and notify supervisors of any problems.
- Secure a substitute for any scheduled hours that cannot be worked.
- Assist in daily cleaning of assigned areas. Help maintain overall cleanliness of facility.
- Understand and utilize the communication resources of the entire facility including but not limited to two-way radios, phones and the PA system.
- Recognize, report, and respond to any unsafe conditions and pool hazards and execute effective emergency action plans.
- Maintain and carry out all City, County, State Health Departments, and the St. Charles Park District’s rules and regulations.
