Job Summary – About the Role
Deliver high quality recreation services for residents, visitors and the St. Charles community by adhering to the District’s safety and administrative policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
This position is well suited for someone with a pleasant personality. Work record that shows reliability, initiative, tact and productivity. High proficiency in tennis skills, movement and equipment. The Tennis Professional must have excellent oral and written communication skills, good internal and external customer service skills and excellent planning, organizational and problem-solving skills
Required: Minimum 16 years of age. Required 1 season High School Varsity tennis experience. Maintain First Aid/CPR/AED and Mandated Reporter certification or obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
Preferred: Professional certification preferred (USPTA or USPTR). Recreation/fitness industry experience preferred including 2 years previous experience working in a tennis program and instructing tennis players. Strongly preferred minimum Division 3 or NAIA collegiate tennis player or 4.0 NTRP rating.
Essential Functions of the Position
Park District Cornerstones
- Follow all departmental safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of Park District’s safety and risk management program.
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with residents, colleagues, the public, PDRMA and other agencies or organizations as delegated.
- Recommends improvements and efficiencies to better accomplish individual and District goals in the best interests of the St. Charles Park District community.
- Comply with Park District policies and administrative procedures.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Superintendent of Recreation, the Assistant Superintendent of Recreation, and the Tennis Operations Supervisor, the NRC Tennis Professional shall complete all assigned duties to the best of their abilities, offering suggestions of better ways to accomplish jobs and be ever mindful of the best interests of the St. Charles Park District and of fellow employees. This position requires extensive knowledge and ability to:
- Work cooperatively and harmoniously with the general public, cooperating agencies and fellow employees.
- Provide information and assistance to fellow employees.
- Maintain professional attitude and appearance.
- Demonstrate safe work habits through the use of the established safety program guidelines including maintaining SCPD required certifications and CPR/, AED & First Aid certifications.
- Represent the District positively and ethically to patrons, guests and co-workers.
- Lead or assist in managing assigned tennis programs.
- Maintain orderly tennis court environment including thorough ball pick-up and cart/equipment organization.
- Monitor use of equipment to ensure safe and proper use and assist with equipment maintenance.
- Provide excellent customer service to participants and participants’ guardians to ensure satisfaction.
- Ensure that program participants and clients are informed about current and upcoming programs and events.
- Maintain proper attendance and ratios of assigned programs to be reported to the Junior Tennis Coordinator.
- Be prepared in advance for assigned tennis programs, private, group private tennis lessons and drills.
- Instruct adult and junior programs, private and group private tennis lessons, and drills in sport rules, game strategies and performance principles.
- Provide constructive input of the group tennis programs during the indoor and outdoor seasons to enhance and add to the quality of the adult and junior group programming.
- Communicate effectively with the Junior Tennis Coordinator and Tennis Operations Supervisor regarding all tennis department matters including tennis programs, private and group private lessons and instructor/participant communication.
- Communicate effectively with the Junior Tennis Coordinator, Tennis Operations Supervisor and Guest Services Associates regarding all matters in regards to the tennis program.
- Comply with organizational, departmental and divisional policies and procedures. Complete necessary forms for accidents and incidents in a timely manner.
- Attend all employee meetings and trainings as assigned.
- Assist in promotional activities and facility special events as assigned.
Marginal Functions of the Position
- Assist with special projects, as needed.
- Assume other responsibilities as assigned.
- Set up and take down rooms for programs and rentals.
