Tennis Professional
Job Summary: The Tennis Professional is responsible for providing quality tennis instruction to customers in a safe and friendly environment, and performing any administrative duties as requested.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None
Overall Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate positive interactions with patrons and fellow employees
- Cooperate with other Park District employees on and off of the court
- Possess sufficient knowledge and understanding of the game of tennis to professionally teach group and private lessons
- Teach group lesson hours as assigned and conduct lessons in a professional and appropriate manner
- Teach group lesson students the fundamentals of tennis
- Write lesson plans which clearly identify objectives, and designate drills and activities to reach those goals
- Begin and end each class on time, and remain in attendance on court during the entire lesson
- Maintain accurate records of class attendance
- Conduct tryout sessions
- Schedule and reserve court time for private lessons
- In the event of cancellation, remove reservation from court sheets and charge student appropriately
- Submit and approve completed timesheets by the end of each pay period
- Promptly report significant discipline problems to management and notify parents if deemed appropriate by management
- Make positive suggestions to improve the programs and operational aspects of the facility
- Participate in, and positively promote Park District programs, special events, tournaments, pro shops activities, etc.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings and registrations
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently
- Submit requests for planned time off according to Park District policy
- When absent, inform management of absence and help find substitution if requested
- Actively support the agencys risk management protocol that will effectively control and reduce accidents
- Obey the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the Safety Committee
- Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices or conditions to the immediate supervisor
- Attend and participate in required safety trainings
- Perform other related duties as assigned, based on agency needs
Required Skills/Abilities (Technology, Mathematical, Language):
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group settings to patrons, parents and employees of the Park District
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, schedules and procedural manuals
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, schedule or diagram form

Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Three (3) years related experience and/or training
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
- Regularly required to run, move side-to-side, forwards and backwards, and play during lessons
- Regularly required to stand, walk and sit
- Regularly required to reach with hands and arms, and swing a tennis racquet
- Regularly required to project voice across a tennis court, both indoors and outdoors
- Frequently required to push, pull, carry and repeatedly stoop, kneel or crouch
- The noise level is moderate to high at times
- The employee must frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds
- The employee must frequently move up to 40 pounds and occasionally move up to 95 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, night vision and the ability to adjust focus
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including the sun, heat, humidity, and rain
- Occasionally exposed to pollen, fumes or airborne particles
- Normal working hours are Monday through Friday, 11:00am-8:30pm and weekend hours may also be required
- Schedule will be altered as needed at the direction of the Racquet Sports Supervisor
- Extra hours may be required at times
Required Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:
- Must hold, or obtain within 60 days, CPR/First Aid and AED certification
- USPTA/PTR certification is preferred
