Front Office Position
Overview of St. Christopher’s Front Office Position
St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church seeks an administrative assistant (Front Office Assistant) to support our Vicar, the Vestry (non-profit board), committee volunteers, community groups, vendors, and parishioners. This person serves as the front door to the parish and the initial contact for parishioners, visitors, and guests. This person serves under the direct supervision of the Vicar.
General Responsibilities:
- Perform essential office duties on behalf of the Vicar and parish: answer and make phone calls, take messages and email to appropriate contact, coordinate space scheduling and reservations on our online calendar, handle the mail every day (in and out) and take the mail to post office when needed, and when necessary assist with mail outs (printing, sticking envelope labels, stuffing). Order office supplies as needed in consultation with the Vicar and financial team. Assist the financial team with basic bookkeeping, and schedule vendors and service providers in consultant with the Buildings and Grounds committee chair.
- Interact with parishioners, visitors, and guests needing assistance.
- With oversight and assistance from the Vicar and others identified by the Vicar, create and print church bulletins and announcements weekly and as necessary for worship and pastoral activities.
- Create e-communication announcements weekly with information from the Vicar, the Vestry, the financial team, and committee chairs.
- Under the indirect supervision of the Vicar, assist vestry members with various requests.
- Enter and update member information in the relational database system (ACS, ICON, for example) and maintain the member directory (currently in Microsoft Word).
- Prepare certificates for baptisms, confirmations, and changes in membership status with oversight and assistance from the Vicar as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Vicar.
Requirements

- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding church business and pastoral situations.
- A valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle are required.
- SLED Background check.
- If offered a position, the candidate must successfully complete online certification in Safe Church, Safe Communities as required by the Episcopal Church and our diocesan policies.
Technical Skills
- Good skills with Microsoft Word; working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint
- Familiarity with or ability to quickly learn SurveyMonkey, Mailchimp, Sign Up Genius, and Canva
- Familiarity with or ability to quickly learn ACS or ICON church software for data entry
- Basic bookkeeping skills
Minimum Education and Work Experience
- High school diploma or GED
- One year of administrative experience
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with a non-profit or church
- Familiarity with the Episcopal Church

Other Position Details
The Front Office Assistant will work 15 hours weekly on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with additional hours occasionally for special events or needs (up to 18 hours in one week maximum). Standard work days and times are Tuesday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with no meal break. The church office is at 400 Dupre Drive, Spartanburg, S.C., and the office phone number is 864-585-2858. The email address is Office@stchrisepiscopal.org. The Front Office Assistant will from time to time need to make short trips to office-related stores for church business.
Compensation is $17.80 to $20 per hour (up to 15 hours per week) based on skills, education, and experience. This position does not include health or life insurance benefits.
