Substitute Custodian/Van Mail Driver
Part-time, Non-union position
POSITION SUMMARY
The individual selected for this position will be responsible for general housekeeping and minor maintenance of assigned buildings. Responsible for delivery of mail and packages between St. Clair County RESA and local school districts. Will work at multiple locations in the absence of full-time staff. Schedule is based on need. Potentially 20 hours per week. Substitute custodian hours are generally 2:30-11:00 pm. Reports directly to the Supervisor of Maintenance and Custodians.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Must have a valid Michigan driver’s license, in good standing.
- Must be physically able to bend, stoop, climb, reach, work in high places, ability to move heavy items and lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Experience in operating high-speed floor polishers, industrial vacuums and carpet shampooing equipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain assigned building area in a clean, neat and sanitary condition.
- Adapt work schedule around students, staff and the public.
- Perform minor maintenance and other tasks as assigned.
- Follow direction in setting up rooms, as defined for function.
- Assist groups and visitors using the building, as necessary. Understanding of who is in buildings and what their needs are.
- Thorough cleaning assigned area on a daily basis to include, but not limited to, dusting all surfaces, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, cleaning windows and emptying waste receptacles.
- Take extra time in cleaning restrooms and ensuring that everything is sanitized.
- Use good judgment in protecting equipment, facilities and keeping building safe.
- Cleaning and maintaining custodial equipment.
- Neat and clean in appearance and properly attired.
- Adapt to a flexible working schedule and act as a substitute custodian for all RESA facilities.
- Effectively communicate with co-workers and the general public in a professional manner.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Exercise sound judgment in making emergency decisions that are in the best interest of the RESA.
- Working knowledge of the care and maintenance of carpeting, terrazzo and tile flooring.
- Must be knowledgeable of chemicals and cleaning products. Follow all instructions and take caution in using in a safe manner.
- Physically able to move, load and unload items weighing up to 50 lbs. and mobility to stoop, twist, bend, squat and sit for long periods.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Employment Date: Pending Board approval and successful completion of pre-employment drug screen and background checks
Schedule: Sub custodian, on-call, Monday through Friday, fifty-two weeks per year. Work hours and locations may vary.
Van mail driver, part-time, Wednesdays, 7 a.m. - 12 noon
Salary and Fringes: $14.00 per hour; Mandatory benefits only
