POSITION SUMMARY:
This individual is assigned to Woodland Developmental Center daily and will service programs within St. Clair County RESA and support our Local Education Agencies as needed to meet the needs of students, and work with administration to develop a healthy learning environment for all. This individual reports to the Woodland Principal. This program services and supports students from the ages of 3-26 who are Cognitively Impaired and Severely Multiply Impaired.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree, preferably a BSN
- Certification: Active Michigan license to practice as a Registered Nurse and willingness
- to get the school nurse certification.

Experience:
- One year in health care with nursing responsibilities is preferred School setting and /or pediatric experience is preferred
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor, assess and interpret the health status of students, while communicating issues to administration
- Assist school personnel with health and medical emergencies in the school.
- Provide care to ill or injured students.
- Have knowledge of and recognize symptoms of COVID-19.
- Monitor and review all medications that students receive in the building. Responsible for complying with all local and state requirements related to the administering of medication.
- Assess developmental history of students in relation to patterns of normal growth.
- Provide health care counseling to parents as needed.
- Maintain records for local and state authorities, including immunizations and communicable diseases reporting.
- Act as liaison between the schools and physicians and public health entities.
- Coordinate health documents and mutual health related communications between hospitals, medical agencies, and the school.
- Possess knowledge and experience in the care of diabetes including administration of insulin.
- Assist staff when necessary in programs of physical hygiene, first aid, nutrition for students.
- Provide health education related to medication, seizures, bloodborne pathogens and other related topics to staff and administration.
- Able to work as a team member with the other Woodland School Nurse.
- Attend all meetings and professional development as directed by the Principal or Director.
- Must be able to twist, bend and lift 50 pounds.
- Candidates must be willing to receive training in CPI, Ukeru and any other nonviolent de-escalation strategies.
- Has a valid license, insurance and own transportation as the position may require going to offsite meetings.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Employment Date: Immediate, pending Board approval and successful completion of
employee entrance drug screen and background checks.
Work Schedule: Balanced Calendar Schedule (187 days)
Salary Range: TBD Based on experience

Work Day: Standard instructional staff hours: 8 am – 3:20 pm
