We are looking for an Assistant Director of our Fund Development department! Your goal is to create opportunities and relationships with donors that assists the organization in making their $4M annual goal.


This position works closely with the Director of Fund Development, President, and other key stakeholders to advance the organization's fundraising goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned

Major Gifts & Donor Relations (Annual Fund and Capital Campaign):

  • Cultivate Major Gift Donors: Initiate and build relationships with potential major gift donors (individuals, foundations, corporations), utilizing a donor-centric approach to develop tailored cultivation strategies.
  • Solicit Major Gifts: Proactively solicit major gifts and bequests, making personal asks when appropriate, and work closely with the Director to ensure a strategic approach to donor engagement and solicitation.
  • Stewardship & Donor Relations: Maintain ongoing stewardship of major gift and planned giving donors. Ensure regular, meaningful communication and demonstrate a commitment to long-term, positive relationships. Create and execute engagement opportunities to upgrade and sustain current donors and recapture past donors.
  • Donor Research & Analysis: Conduct research to identify potential donors, understand giving trends, and discover opportunities for deeper engagement and increased giving.
  • Maintain Donor Database: Ensure all donor interactions, including contact details, gifts, and notes on relationships, are properly documented and tracked in the donor management system.


Planned Giving:

  • Coordinate Planned Giving Initiative: Oversee the organization’s planned giving program, including the development of marketing materials, identifying potential planned giving prospects, and making solicitations.
  • Track Planned Gifts: Monitor and report on secured and realized planned gifts, ensuring the accuracy of gift tracking and proper follow-up with donors.
  • Donor Education: Educate donors about planned giving options, benefits, and the impact of such gifts on the organization’s mission.


Special Events:

  • Event Planning & Coordination: Assist in the coordination of major fundraising events, including the annual gala, donor recognition events, and other special events. This includes managing event logistics, overseeing event budgets, and identifying sponsorships.
  • Sponsorship & Marketing: Develop sponsorship packages, recruit sponsors, and work with marketing to promote the events to key audiences.
  • Post-Event Evaluation: Conduct post-event evaluations to measure event success, track donor engagement, and identify opportunities for future improvements.


Collaboration & Strategic Involvement:

  • Work with Leadership: Collaborate strategically with the organization’s President, Director of Fund Development, and senior staff to align donor engagement and fundraising efforts with the overall organizational strategy.
  • Support Fund Development Team: Partner with other team members to ensure alignment of major gifts, planned giving, and event initiatives with the broader fundraising goals of the organization.
  • General Support: Assist with other duties as assigned, including preparing reports, donor communications, and participating in meetings to support department needs.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in business, communications, marketing, fund development or related field. Three to five years related work experience, with a focus on major gifts, planned giving, and special events. Experience in event planning and coordination. An equivalent combination of training or experience may be considered.


Language Skills:                                                 

The ability to effectively communicate, face to face, in writing and/or over the telephone, with any and all internal and external stakeholders, constituents, prospects or business partners. Ability to effectively write in a business style and professional manner.


Computer Skills:                                                 

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products and knowledge of fundraising platforms with a preference to Raiser’s Edge, Give Smart, iWave


Mathematical Skills:                                           

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. 


Reasoning Ability:                                              

Ability to function in a matrix and collaborative environment. Ability to understand and apply best practices and common sense understanding to complex issues.

Driving Requirements:  This position requires that an employee is able to drive for work purposes and must maintain a valid driver’s license with a past driving record that meets the standards set forth by the agency.
