Job Summary and Qualifications
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Transporter will perform various support duties in the Transporter Department, including transporting of patients to and from the department and assisting with the transport of equipment to and from departments. The Transporter routinely handles confidential information.
Participates in providing patient specific care standards as directed, and follows service excellence standards to ensure high levels of patient satisfaction.
In addition, the Lead Transporter assists with ongoing training and/or precepting of new and current employees as directed by the supervisor. The Lead Transporter is responsible for coordination of daily workflow, ensuring new processes, equipment and other changes are communicated and/or taught to other Transporters.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures proper handling of patients with comfort and safety
- Transports patients by assisting patients, transferring discharged patients to their private vehicle, lifting patients on and off beds; moving them to and from special service and treatment areas, and operating rooms; using wheelchairs or moveable beds.
- Escorts patients to and from departments, verifying order, Isolation status and patient identity.
o Communicates with unit nursing staff about transfer prior to escorting patient to room.
o Follows guidelines documented on request for transport (e.g. O2, IV, stretcher vs. w/c)
o Demonstrates agility with conveying multiple articles (e.g. stretcher and IV pole)
o Ensures availability of adequate transport equipment at beginning and end of each shift.
o Ensures that MRI screening form has been completed prior to transporting to the MRI area.
o Assists to educate patient and family on valuables policy and ensures belongings are secured or transferred with the patient.
o Tracks number and type of transports.
- Adheres to Patient Care policies/procedures.
o Maintains patient privacy and dignity at all times as allowed by exam performed and ensures confidentiality is maintained.
o Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
o Verbalizes own role in policies located in Disaster Manual and Code Blue.
o Verbalizes location of emergency equipment in department/room/area.
o Ensures equipment is properly functioning and demonstrates protocol to handle malfunctions.
o Follows hospital and department policy for Standard Precautions or category of isolation appropriate to patient.
- Transports equipment and supplies to assigned patient care areas.
- Transport laboratory specimens by picking up specimens and delivering them to specified laboratory.
- Demonstrates skills/abilities required for transport department employees.
o Demonstrates appropriate customer service skills with all customers (patient, pt’s family, physician, visitors, co-workers).
o Communicates professionally within work environment.
o Reports to work consistently and on-time, adhering to all attendance policies.
o Attends at least 80% of department meetings on a regular basis.
o Demonstrates flexibility in work assignment, by location, shift, duration of shift, etc.
o Functions with minimal supervision, considers alternatives and identifies possible solutions prior to seeking assistance, except when safety issues are involved.
o Accepts change, direction and constructive feedback in an open and positive manner, and demonstrates the ability to change/improve.
o Adjusts to variations in volume in an efficient manner.
o Maintains supportive and cooperative demeanor.
- Employee’s conduct must reflect the Company’s values and a commitment to the Code of Conduct ethics and compliance program.
- Other duties as assigned.
Must possess good verbal and writing skills. Must work well with others. Must be customer oriented to provide outstanding services to patients, physicians, visitors and co-workers. Maintains awareness of patient/customer privacy, confidentiality and dignity at all times.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
