The Support Tech II will provide direct and indirect patient care to support the Surgery unit as directed by the Registered Nurse (RN). Support responsibilities may include interdepartmental transfer of patients, environmental support activities, and operating room turnover.This role will be able to perform the following duties:
1. Open sterile supplies (including trays)
2. Assist with sterile prepping
3. Assist with patient positioning
4. Perform the role of Totter (Turnover Team-In Between the Cases)

Job Description:
Operations
- Under the direction of the RN, aids as directed, including but not limited to, transporting patients, and transportation of blood products and specimens.
- Performs preoperative patient hair removal per surgeon preference.
- Performs environmental cleaning as specific to designated unit, following AORN Environment of Care, including but not limited to, cleaning between surgical procedures, terminal cleaning, and periodic cleaning.
- Provides and maintains cleaning supplies and unit specific equipment/supplies.
- Performs the action of opening sterile supplies and sterile trays as directed by a Registered Nurse.
- Under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse and Anesthesia personnel, assists with sterile prep and sterile positioning of patients for procedures, which often includes holding extremities during the operative prep.
- Performs role of Turnover Team member who function between multiple ORs and responsible to providing support to the clinicians for the quick progression of the cases.
- Assists at conclusion of case with returning instruments to trays, preparing case cart for transport to decontamination and transporting case to decontamination.
Quality
- Demonstrates Surgical Conscience; understands related sterility, recognizes sterile field boundaries and assists circulator as delegated.
- Demonstrates proper skill of sterile technique in the following; scrubbing, donning gloves, patient positioning, patient prep, and the opening of supplies and instruments.
- Under supervision of a registered nurse sterile supplies may be opened and rooms set up per procedure preference card. Demonstrates knowledge of regulatory compliance. Attends education programs to maintain and learn new treatments, procedures, clinical skills, and mandatory in-service days.
Financial Accountability
- Demonstrates fiscal accountability by cost-effective utilization of equipment and supplies.
- Orders and maintains Par level supplies and nutrition supplies as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Credentials, Licenses:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proficient literacy.
- BLS Certification.

- Sterile Technique
- Patient Prepping and Positioning for Operative Procedures
Kind and Length of Experience:
- 1 Year of Periop Support Tech Role, CNA, or other similar related Health Care Experience
