Position Summary
The Direct Support Aide is responsible for coordinating and overseeing activity programs, ensuring the well-being of participants, and supporting the daily operations of the center. This role plays a vital part in fostering an engaging and supportive environment that aligns with the mission of SEADCC.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
As a Direct Support Aide, you will play a vital role in fostering a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for participants. Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Behavioral Support & Supervision: Monitor, prevent, and effectively manage varying behaviors among individuals with diverse medical diagnoses, utilizing de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement strategies to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all participants.
- Emergency Response & First Aid: Provide immediate intervention in case of medical emergencies, including administering CPR and first aid as required, in accordance with program policies and state regulations.
- Compassionate Participant Care: Exhibit patience, empathy, and attentiveness to participants’ needs, ensuring their emotional and physical well-being while fostering a sense of dignity and independence.
- Assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): Support participants with daily personal care routines, including feeding, toileting, and mobility assistance (e.g., transferring from a wheelchair to a chair), while respecting individual abilities and preferences.
- Activity Coordination & Engagement: Assist in planning, preparing, and leading a variety of recreational and therapeutic activities—such as bingo, checkers, arts and crafts, range of motion exercises, table games, and interactive group discussions—to encourage socialization, cognitive stimulation, and relaxation.
- Facilitating Social & Recreational Programs: Accompany and support participants on periodic field trips and community outings to promote inclusion, social interaction, and community engagement in a safe and structured manner.
- Encouraging Participation & Smooth Transitions: Keep participants actively involved and engaged throughout the day, ensuring a seamless transition between activities and minimizing downtime to maintain interest and routine consistency.
- Observation & Feedback Collection: Monitor participants’ engagement levels and emotional responses to activities, gather feedback, and collaborate with the team to enhance programming to better meet their needs and preferences.
- Health & Safety Reporting: Identify and promptly report any changes in participants’ medical conditions, behaviors, or overall well-being to the Site Director or appropriate healthcare personnel.
- Adherence to Safety & Program Protocols: Follow and enforce all established safety procedures, policies, and infection control measures to ensure a secure and hygienic environment for participants, staff, and visitors.
This role requires a compassionate and proactive individual dedicated to improving the quality of life for seniors and individuals with intellectual disabilities while maintaining a structured and supportive environment.
Additional duties may be assigned as needed to support the overall success of the organization. Responsibilities and tasks may evolve based on business needs, and employees are expected to be flexible and adaptable in fulfilling their role.
Qualifications:
· High School Diploma or GED required.
· Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a Direct Support Aide role within a long-term care or adult day care setting.
· Passion for and respect towards the elderly, with the ability to recognize and respond to their needs.
· Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities.
· Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
· Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
· Strong problem-solving abilities and time management skills.
· Compliance with all State of Missouri and SEADCC employment regulations.
· Commitment to working in active support of SEADCC’s mission.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.32 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
