We are seeking a skilled Journeyman HVAC Mechanic to install, service, repair, and maintain in proper operating condition all types of refrigeration machinery and equipment in accordance with duties described below. Please note that Seniority may determine shift assignments, this role has a high probability of requiring off shift schedule.

Salary for this role: $38.00 per hour shift differential. ST Engineering considers several factors with extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates’ key skills, relevant work experience, education/training/certification, job level, and work location. Base salary is only one component of our competitive Total Rewards package.

We are seeking a skilled Journeyman HVAC Mechanic to install, service, repair, and maintain in proper operating condition all types of refrigeration machinery and equipment in accordance with duties described below. What YOU Will Do
- Assist Facility Engineering with equipment installation layout. Assembles, and installs refrigeration equipment, such as compressors and all adjunct parts working from blueprints, sketches and specifications.
- Adjusts and regulates all valves, controls, thermocouples, and thermo-stats.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot and determine proper method for repair or replacement of failed components. Determines necessary parts for repairs. Submits information to the supervisor or Facilities office for necessary purchases.
- Diagnoses reported issues and performs emergency repairs on all types of refrigeration units.
- Re-assembles equipment, making necessary adjustments in preparation for loading the system with refrigerant. Once repair or installation is complete, the employee will test equipment to ensure safety, performance, and accuracy meet requirements before turning over to end users.
- Must understand refrigerant flow and be able to diagnose HVAC system malfunctions. Must be capable of using all machines, leak detectors, recovery machines, precision instruments, various hand tools and other equipment that is related to the performance and function of this position.
- When asked, the employee will be responsible for assisting with the planning of upcoming installations, repairs, and PM’s of HVAC mechanical equipment.
- Installs, inspects, repairs, maintains, and/or services refrigeration, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment and systems including condensers, evaporators, water cooling towers, motors, air handling units, furnaces, reciprocating chillers, pumps, furnaces, computer room a/c units.
- Performs skilled repairs on multi-zone systems, related equipment.
- Tests systems by utilizing pressure tests, and balancing air conditioning systems; tests joints and insulates pipes of refrigeration, heating, or air-conditioning systems.
- Maintain logs and reports necessary for preventive maintenance and service records. Communicates with management and supervision by verbal, written and electronic means.
- Examines Maintains tools and equipment in good condition; plans and organizes assignments effectively.
- Assist with other maintenance duties as assigned.
- Must have a Journeyman’s HVAC license that is current with the State of Maryland.
- HS Diploma/GED equivalent
- Minimum of 4 years of related work experience
- Diagnoses, repairs, and installs using blueprints, codes, specifications, and other industry standards. Performs preventive maintenance utilizing work orders and relevant schematics and user manuals.
- Experience with Charging, Evacuating, Recovering Refrigeration Systems.
- Maintains records of refrigerant recovery and recycling in compliance with Environmental regulations.
- Safely performs functions of the position including proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis, lockout/tagout, and wearing PPE as required.
- Willingness and ability to instruct and assist less experienced HVAC mechanics and Apprentice.
- Must be able to safely work at heights on roofs including the use of ladders, scaffolding, and lifts, and maintain certification and use of necessary fall protection. Pass fall protection surveillance.
- A physically demanding role with exposure to loud noises, potential hazards, and often dirty environments, requiring the use of protective gear, frequent standing, lifting heavy parts, and working in tight spaces.
- Hands-on experience with maintaining large temperature, humidity, and particle control clean rooms for manufacturing.
- Prior use of AutoCad HVAC Tool palette /toolbar for schematic creation.
- Experience performing HVAC work in a large industrial setting.
- Highly skilled with Brazing and soldering.
- Set up and use of building automation systems to track building conditions and the operation of facilities equipment.
