In general, the principal's responsibilities include: the organization of the school so that
appropriate learning can take place; development of a competent faculty and staff;
development and implementation of a balanced curriculum; provision for the safety,
welfare, and care for the students while they are attending school.
The Principal also has a relationship with the School Board, particularly the Long-Range
Planning Committee. In this regard, the Principal is expected to be present for all School
Board meetings and sub-committee meetings.
The Principal directly supervises the Assistant Principal, Dean of Students, Director of
Guidance, Athletic Director, Fine Arts Director, Campus Minister, and Technology
Coordinator.
Opportunity should be made for the Principal to attend appropriate conferences, meetings,
seminars and other continuing education programs.
The Principal of St. Francis High School is nominated by the President and ratified by
the Board of Trustees. The Principal reports directly to the President and is responsible
for the ordinary operation and educational development of the school.
Specific responsibilities include:
A. Daily Operations:
- Ensures that the day-to-day school program is operating according to the stated mission, philosophy and objectives of the school.
- Support and facilitate the Campus Ministry programs and other aspects of the school's function as a community of Catholic faith and values.
- Maintain the climate and discipline of the school, and selects and supervises the Dean of Students.
- Monitors the daily operations to ensure their consistency with school policies and goals.
- Coordinate, plan and implement the scheduling and supervision of all student activities.
- Coordinate the academic calendar of the school.
- Responsible for the preparation of the Faculty Handbook and Faculty Directory.
- Oversees the preparation of various academic reports.
- Responsible for the preparation and oversight of the academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular budgets.
- Responsible for the school's assembly program.
B. Educational Program:
- Selects and supervises the Assistant Principal and other chief administrators.
- Selects, assigns, develops, supervises and evaluates the faculty and supporting staff (including guidance, campus ministry, library, department chairs, athletics, fine arts, and moderators).
- Chairs or delegates the chairing of the Academic Council.
- Communicates needs to the President in regard to the assignment of Friars to the faculty and/or staff.
- Formulate educational policies in consultation with the professional staff members and groups, and with the approval of the President and School Board.
- Oversee, in conjunction with the Academic Council, the design, evaluation and improvement of the curriculum including the scheduling and teaching of classes and student activities.
- Ultimately responsible for the conferral of honors, promotion, graduation, and the dismissal of students.
C. Meetings/Committees/Liaison:
- Attend the general Administrative Staff meeting each week.
- Serve as a member of the Long-Range Planning Committee and other committees as appropriate.
- Attend all School Board meetings.
