Job Description-Preschool Director
Founded in 1999, the St. Francis of Assisi Preschool offers an ideal transition from the safety of home to the world outside. The curriculum is designed to consider the needs and interests of every child, enabling personal, spiritual, social and cognitive growth.
The mission of St. Francis of Assisi Preschool is to offer a warm, caring, risk-free and nurturing environment where children can be encouraged to develop a positive self-image and respect for others. In partnership with parents as primary teachers, each child is supported in a developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum.
Position Summary
The Director is responsible for all aspects of the daily operation of the Preschool, including curriculum development for 2, 3, and 4 year olds, staff hiring and management, marketing and communication, recruitment and enrollment, parent relations, budget and fundraiser development and oversight, purchasing of supplies and equipment, and other duties which may be identified on an ongoing basis. The Director insures the participation and representation of the Preschool Program in the St. Francis Parish Community.
The Director of the St. Francis of Assisi Preschool is supervised by the Pastor.
This is a full-time salaried 10-month position with a benefit package from the Diocese of Bridgeport. Summer hours are paid on an hourly basis. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Responsibilities
Business Management
· Work with the Finance Council to prepare an annual operating budget, tuition plan, staff compensation levels, and fundraising goals.
· Develop and maintain a curriculum consistent with the SFA Preschool mission and philosophy
· Ensure all protocol for State Certification is current and updated
· Organize and lead all special functions like Open House, Fundraisers, Christmas Pageant
· Schedule specialists to participate in curriculum and program activities throughout the year like music, sports, fire department, and school photos
· Ensure playground and other equipment meet state safety standards
· Organize and run the Preschool Summer camp
Staff Management
· Supervise preschool teachers, teacher’s aides and administrative assistant
· Recruit and hire highly qualified staff
· Schedule and lead staff meetings
· Maintain personnel files and ensure staff fulfill continuing education requirements
Communication and Parent Relations
· Effectively communicate with parents and quickly resolve parent issues.
· Plan and schedule Parent/Teacher Conferences
· Update staff, parent, and student handbooks annually
Marketing and Enrollment
· Publish newsletters, the school calendar, summer mailings, and other parent and parish communications
· Design and develop a preschool recruitment and marketing plan
· Receive and respond to calls from prospective families
· Directly responsible for the entire enrollment process
· Ensure that all student medical forms are up to date and complete
· Maintain the Preschool website and other social media presence

· Recognizes and supports the unique mission of the Parish and school by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church
Basic Qualifications
· Excellent communications skills - written, verbal, public speaking and presentation skills;
· Excellent interpersonal skills; a self-starter and well-organized; team player; multi-tasker.
· Proficient in computer technology and related educational technology.
· Flexibility in assessing needs and strategies - adapt appropriately.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university in Early Childhood Education or related discipline
- State of CT Office of Early Childhood Certifications for “Director” and “Head Teacher”
- Five years of preschool experience
- Maintain active CPR and First Aid certifications
Preferred Qualifications
- Practicing Roman Catholic, in good standing
- Master’s Degree
- Prior Preschool Director experience
