Communications Coordinator - St. Francis United Methodist Church

St. Francis United Methodist Church in Charlotte seeks a dedicated professional to join our team to enhance the church’s communication through a variety of media outlets. This part-time staff member collaborates with the pastor, staff, and ministry teams for the creative development and implementation of effective communication to reach members and the community at large. The search committee desires a self-starter who is innovative and able to work well with others.

Position Overview: This part-time staff position is focused on communicating information about St. Francis United Methodist Church and the ministries of the church. The coordinator collaborates with staff and ministry teams for the creative development and implementation of effective communication to reach members of the church, the local community, and beyond. The position requires someone who can capture the essence of the ministries of the church and translate that essence through a variety of media outlets. This position reports to the senior pastor with direction from the Staff-Parish Relations Lead Representative of the One Governing Board.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Degree in communications, media, public relations, marketing, or a related field, or comparable work experience.

· Proven experience in communications or marketing with preference shown to applicants with experience in the non-profit sector.

· Must submit to and pass a recent background check.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

1. Highly effective oral and written communication skills.

2. Creativity, innovation, and thinking outside of the box for effective communication is a must.

3. Experience working with and applying brand guidelines.

4. Skilled in multi-tasking, leadership, organization, and collaboration with multiple parties.

5. Ability to work independently.

6. Adept in prioritizing and managing multiple projects while adapting production timelines to changing conditions.

7. Proficient in PC and Mac applications. Experience with design programs, web authoring software, email management software, and apps, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office and iWork suites, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Pages, MailChimp, Google Analytics, Facebook Business, WordPress, Canva, Meta Suite, Slack, and Squarespace.

GENERAL JOB DUTIES

1. Be a professing Christian person of faith who loves the Lord and has a heart for others to have a relationship with the Church and Christ.

2. Utilize exceptional communication skills and a willingness to invest one’s gifts in many areas and aspects of the church.

3. Be a team player.

4. Have the capability to think outside of the box and ability to improvise when situations arise that are not part of the job description.

5. Embrace the mission and vision of the church.

6. Possess the gifts and graces to be flexible and wear many hats as we build the Kingdom of God at St. Francis United Methodist Church.

7. Attend weekly staff meetings and an annual staff retreat.

8. Work on site with staff at designated times. Attend special events and at least one worship service per month to interact with the congregation.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Responsible for the creative development and implementation of effective communication among church staff and members and for the community at large, including but not limited to:

· Website: Update and maintain the website with informative, engaging, and current content congruent with the mission and values of the church.

· E-news: Produce the weekly E-news with input from staff with time allotted for review prior to publication.

· Social media: Serve as the primary manager of social media channels by creating, updating, and maintaining the church’s social media outlets, including Facebook and Instagram, with relevant messaging which lives out the mission of the church.

· Graphics: Collaborate with staff and ministry teams to create communication plans and design promotional materials with a high standard of creativity, excellence, and effectiveness.

· Information kiosk: Keep the kiosk updated with brochures and other information for visitors and the congregation.

2. Protect the church brand while leading staff and ministries in best practices for brand inclusion to ensure consistency in messaging.

3. Consult with the staff and the One Governing Board to effectively promote and market events and ministries consistent with the mission of St. Francis.

4. Support the pastor in creating sermon images, marketing church-sponsored events, and assisting in regular correspondence to the church body.

5. Strengthen internal communication among staff, volunteers, and board members for accurate and consistent communication.

6. Track and analyze website, email, and social media analytics. Report the results to the senior pastor and One Governing Board with recommendations on how to proceed based on data, such as engagement, click rates, and site visits.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15,600.00 per year
