St. James Parish Government is hiring Part- Time Bus Monitor at the ARC for the Department of Human Services/Elderly Services.
JOB FUNCTION: This is an entry level position with responsibility of assisting the bus driver to ensure safe transport and well-being of passengers of St. James Parish. The Bus Monitor holds a position of responsibility where public funds are involved. The Bus Driver shall have the ability to direct and facilitate the provision of services in accordance with federal, state and parish laws, regulations and policies. This position is classified as essential during declared emergencies or natural disasters and non-exempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Acts.
ESSESNTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assists
the bus driver to ensure safety and well-being of passengers,
· Monitor and assist individuals while bus is in operation,
· Assist driver in ensuring seat belts, harnesses and wheelchair clamps are secured as required,
· Assist staff and families in safe loading and unloading individuals with special needs,
· · Coordinate seating regarding medical problems and behavior when appropriate,
· · Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures and assist the driver with navigation and traffic control, when necessary,
· · Assure individuals leaving the bus are received by parents and/or caregivers,
· · Escort individuals to their homes and/or caregiver in emergency situations within reasonable circumstances and safe environments
· · Attend training as directed.
· · Maintain regular attendance.
· · Maintain appropriate notes and accurate records as necessary,
· · Assist in keeping the bus clean and well-maintained including reporting maintenance or safety concerns to the Driver, Supervisor and/or Director.
· · Foster a safe bus environment, encouraging passengers to be respectful, follow rules, and minimize distractions to the bus driver.
· · Perform special and related duties or assignment as requested.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A high school diploma is preferred, but not necessary. A minimum of two years of relative work experience can be substituted.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ration and percentages. Ability to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed oral and written communication. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: To perform job successfully, an individual should exercise great judgement, demonstrate good decision-making, and follow established chain of command. Additionally, this person must be patient, reliable, and able to work with groups of people from different backgrounds, ages, and personalities.
