The Youth Programming Specialist plans and implements innovative systemwide programs and events that focuses on the needs and interests of young people. Under the direct supervision of the Youth Services Manager, and with an unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the Youth Programming Specialist will:
- Plan, organize, and provide systemwide programming for youth. Write program descriptions. Prepare presentations and program materials. Present frequent branch and Main Library programming or attend programs for staff support.
- Assist with program design and defining learning outcomes for youth programming. Help develop systemwide program strategies.
- Evaluate program success. Track metrics for program and event attendance, run reports, and provide data analysis for management and senior leadership.
- Help identify programmatic needs of children, partnership opportunities with organizations serving young people, and program schedules based on community needs.
- Collaborate with public service staff to plan and develop youth programming.
- Write and schedule programs into internal scheduling software.
- Provide support for signature events.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four year college or university.
- Previous experience working with the public and/or experience in public libraries preferred.
- Normal workweek is 40 hours.
- Frequent evenings and weekends for library events.
- Starting/Hiring Range: $18.35 - $22.02, Hourly
- Total Salary Range: $18.35 - $25.69, Hourly
- Spanish language skills preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong organizational skills.
- Public service orientation and commitment to excellent and genuine customer service.
- Demonstration of character and integrity in all situations while upholding SJCPL’s ethical standards.
- Experience working with and proficiency with computers, including Internet, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Windows and Mac OS and communication technologies.
- Knowledge of library materials and services appropriate for a variety of patrons.
- Physical agility and strength to bend, reach, lift, and move up to 50lbs. and to stand for long periods of time.
- Comfortable with public speaking. Creativity and patience in working with young children. Enthusiasm for playful learning and pre-reading skill building.
- Experience utilizing a variety of teaching methods and tools
