Overview

St. John Fisher University is an independent, liberal arts institution that provides a transformative education to approximately 3,800 undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students each year. Across its five Schools, Fisher offers nearly 40 majors in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, business, education, and nursing; 11 pre-professional programs; and master's and doctoral programs in business, nursing, education, pharmacy, and public health. The University's residential campus boasts a robust living and learning community and a successful intercollegiate athletics program. Job Responsibilities

The Admissions Counselor reports to the Associate Director of First-Year Admissions and is responsible for implementing programs and activities focused on the enrollment of new students to the University.

  • 30% Responsible for management of assigned territory, including :

Create travel schedule that positions Fisher to be strategically represented throughout recruitment territory in the fall (8 - 10 weeks) and spring (3 - 4 weeks) semesters.

  • Coordinate visits to high schools, college fairs, as well as various other programs and presentations targeted to prospective students, families, and school counselors.
  • Initiate contact with counselors to build and maintain key relationships with high schools and organizations in assigned territory.
  • 30% Review, evaluate, and process admissions and scholarship decisions for first-year candidates.
  • Make judgment with regard to admissibility of candidates and determine eligibility for merit-based scholarships offered by the University. Must be prepared to advocate for students and defend decisions upon final committee / director review.

  • Initiate contact with applicants to complete application prior to review process.
  • 15% Conduct individual interviews and group information sessions (both on- and off-campus) with prospective students and their families. Must provide candidates with accurate information regarding enrollment, scholarship opportunities, academic program information, and general University information; as well as assess candidate.
  • Responsible for follow-up with individual prospective students.

    Contribute to creation of admissions presentation materials, and modify for specific target audiences.

  • 10% Responsible for coordination of outreach activities via phone, electronic communication, and personal contact with students and their families.
  • Activities designed to cultivate candidate interest and increase enrollment yield (increase prospect-to-applicant and accepted applicant-to-matriculated student conversion ratio.) Includes participation in yield events and follow up / calling with prospective students and families.

  • 10% Responsible for various tasks associated with on- and off-campus recruitment events. This includes selection of venue, associated logistics, program content, and any other necessary tasks.
  • 5% Perform other duties and special assignments as assigned.
  • Education / Experience

    A bachelor's degree and a valid driver's license are required. 1 - 2 years of previous admissions experience preferred; or other professional experience.

    Competencies / Skills

    The Admissions Counselor should possess excellent oral and written communication skills, a commitment to quality teamwork, a high level of initiative and motivation, a willingness to work long hours and contribute fully to a total recruitment program.

    The Admissions Counselor should exhibit strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks. In addition, must be able to work independently and exhibit a pleasant and outgoing disposition.

    This position requires a prior knowledge of basic office technologies, including a proficiency in Microsoft Office.

    Supervision of Employees

    This position may oversee student workers within the Office of Admissions on various projects.

    Work Environment

    Pleasant office environment in the Skalny Welcome Center.

    Weekend and evening work often required. Extended periods of recruitment travel required, especially in the fall. Also, lifting boxes of recruitment materials is necessary.

    May experience some stress in multitasking, as well as meeting timetables and enrollment goals.

    Equipment to be Used

    Must use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access), e-mail system (Outlook), Google Workspace, and student information system (Slate CRM ).

    This is a 12-month, 35-hour per week exempt position. Additional weekend and evening work is often required.
