Director of Human Resources
St. John's School seeks a talented and experienced Director of Human Resources who will work collaboratively with the senior leadership team to develop and coordinate policies and processes that further the School's mission and talent strategy, benefits administration, and legal compliance. The Director of Human Resources reports to the Chief Finance and Operations Officer.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collaborate with senior leadership to understand and implement the organization's goals related to staffing, recruiting, and retention.
- Plan, develop, and coordinate policies, processes, and training to support the School's human-resources compliance and strategy needs.
- Collaborate with the General Counsel to monitor and ensure the school's compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and recommend best practices; review and modify policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Maintain knowledge of best practices, regulatory changes, and employment law; apply this knowledge to communicate changes in policy and practice to the School's administrative team and staff.
- Successfully manage and oversee benefit programs for employees, including all employee communication, problem-solving, and claims resolution.
- Successfully lead, mentor, and manage the Human Resources Coordinator.
Additional Managerial Responsibilities
- Coordinate meetings and information for the school's Retirement Plan Advisory Committee.
- Review and edit Summary Plan Descriptions as needed for plan changes and legal compliance, in collaboration with the General Counsel.
- Manage annual open enrollment for Health, Dental, and Section 125 Plans including creating and communicating benefit changes to employees.
- Oversee, schedule, and conduct new-employee orientation; inform new employees of benefit programs, policies, and related enrollment deadlines.
- Manage employee separation process for both voluntary and involuntary terminations.
- Oversee and ensure that background and reference checks are satisfactory prior to an offer.
- Manage employee online training program. Ensure employees are up-to-date.
- Oversee and post position openings and coordinate the hiring process, including background checks, references, and online training. Ensure hiring managers are kept up to date on the status.
- Consult with supervisors regarding human resources-related issues, needs, and services; educate employees on human resources programs, policies, and processes; explain program provisions, procedures, and eligibility requirements.
- Manage Workers' Compensation program.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
- At least 10 years of human resources management experience is required with broad based experience in human resources, non-profit, or school experience preferred.
- Nationally recognized human resource-related certification is preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of benefits and human resource management systems, workflows, and practices.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
