Director of Development for the Chapel Retreat Center

About the Role

St. John Vianney Catholic Church and the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona, Arizona are seeking a Director of Development to lead fundraising efforts for a 3–5-year capital campaign to build the Chapel Retreat Center. This Center is focused on evangelism, healing, and mental health.

This evolving position will immediately focus on launching and managing the capital campaign for securing the necessary funding for the Chapel Retreat Center. The role is ideal for someone with prior capital campaign experience or an individual looking for an opportunity to lead a transformational fundraising effort.

Key Responsibilities: Capital Campaign for Chapel Retreat Center

  • Capital Campaign (3-5-year) - Lead and execute all fundraising activities.
  • Major Gifts - Facilitate major gift solicitations and engage potential donors.
  • Acknowledgment Letters - Manage gift tracking for donors.
  • Development Committee and Campaign Cabinet - Oversee and develop.
  • Relationships - Build and maintain relationships with parishioners, donors, and the broader community.
  • Database - Utilize and manage donor database systems (ParishSoft or similar).
  • Engagement - Harness the potential of the Chapel of the Holy Cross to drive engagement and fundraising success.
  • Consultants - Collaborate with Ruotolo Associates fundraising consultants as needed.
  • Diocese of Phoenix - Engage with the Diocese of Phoenix Office of Mission Advancement to ensure best practices and alignment with parish and diocesan goals.

Additional Development Responsibilities

  • Long-term fundraising strategies - Develop and implement beyond the capital campaign.
  • Fundraising events and donor engagement activities - Organize and plan.
  • Grant Research - Apply for grants to secure additional funding.
  • Donor Records - Maintain and provide regular progress reports to parish leadership.

You are a mission-driven professional with a strong background in fundraising, capital campaigns, or sales. Whether you have successfully completed a capital campaign or are looking for an opportunity to manage one, this position allows you to make a significant impact while growing in your career.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

  • Prior capital campaign experience or a strong desire to lead a major campaign.
  • Passion for mental health ministry and Catholic retreat centers.
  • Proven experience in fundraising, sales, development, or donor engagement.
  • Ability to build relationships and secure major gifts.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Willingness to learn and be trained in campaign and development strategies.
  • Professional demeanor with a commitment to confidentiality.

Preferred:

  • A practicing Catholic who embraces the mission and values of St. John Vianney Catholic Church.
  • Experience with capital campaigns, donor databases, and CRM platforms.
  • Background in event planning, nonprofit development, or grant writing.

Education & Compensation

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience. Expected to increase based on performance.
  • Benefits: Full Diocesan benefits package, including medical, dental, pension plan, 403B, life insurance, short-term disability, two weeks of vacation, 11 holidays, and 64 hours of sick time.

Salary : $60,000 - $75,000
