St. Johns County Fire Rescue is seeking a Fire Plans Examiner for our well-established Fire Prevention Division whose headquarters are located in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida. St. Johns County residents enjoy a healthy quality of life with many perks including one of the top rated public school systems in the State of Florida, miles of beach shoreline, peaceful estuary scenery of the St. Johns River, long established agriculture and equestrian scene, and the nation’s oldest city, historic St. Augustine. In 2019 St. Johns County was ranked the 10th fastest growing county in the United States showcasing that there is truly something for everyone in St. Johns County! The St. Johns County Fire Prevention Division is responsible for conducting construction document review on all new commercial construction projects including fire alarms, fire sprinklers, underground fire mains, and a variety of other fire related permits.Employees work in a team-oriented environment in a variety of situations with two primary goals in mind: to provide a fire safe environment for our citizens and visitors and to provide quality customer service while working toward fire code compliance. The newly selected Fire Plans Examiner will be responsible for conducting fire plan reviews on New Construction, Remodel, Renovations, Fire Systems, and Development Review Applications. This work is often completed by assignment without direct supervision and requires a high level of Fire Code knowledge and interpretation.

Some of the specific tasks include but are not limited to: Construction Plan Reviews of commercial and multi-family residential buildings for fire code compliance.Construction Plan Reviews of fire protection systems for fire code compliance. Consults with contractors concerning fire code requirements.Discusses and Reviews plan review comments with design professionalsMaintains plan review files and records. Prepares various correspondence and reports with detailed findings.Educates design professionals and developers on submittal requirements.Participates in Development Review Meetings.Conducts Reviews of all manner of Development Review Applications.
