The Training Specialist is a highly responsible civilian position accountable for the maintenance and integrity of SJSO training records. This position assists SJSO training staff to facilitate, implement and document all agency training.  This position serves as the liaison with federal / state / local law enforcement stakeholder agencies and other institutions of higher learning.  In addition, the Training Specialist is responsible for clerical / office duties related to training, such as data entry, scanning, filing updating training schedules, and attendance records.

Education and Qualification Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency
  • Associates Degree preferred
  • Type 25 WPM accurately
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License
  • Highly Computer literate
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access
  • Intermediate knowledge of general office equipment

Duties

  • Ensure, maintain, and audit compliance with mandatory certification retraining requirements for all sworn employees
  • Facilitate informal or collaborative learning programs
  • Act as a liaison and maintain relationships with federal / state / local law enforcement stakeholder agencies and other institutions of higher learning
  • Assist in the planning, facilitation, execution, and delivery of training courses
  • Execute the logistical components of scheduling and supporting instructors
  • Establish and maintain training files in digital format
  • Research and Analyze training issues and recommend solutions
  • Compile / input / submit mandatory retraining documentation to state regulatory agency
  • Maintain / update training files for in-house / in-service classes / courses
  • Maintain configured course listing and update as required
  • Obtain State Certifications for all advanced training courses required for Salary Incentive.
  • Assist with all agency in-service training
  • Process reservation requests for internal and external facilities
  • Prepare and distribute annual in-service training schedule
  • Maintain all class attendance records
  • Research and complete detailed information requests as needed
  • Receive and respond to correspondence
  • Perform administrative / clerical functions
  • Ensure training supplies are ordered as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Maintain confidentiality / security of files and information obtained in the course of employment
  • Process / compile / disseminate record / public record information as directed by approving authority in accordance with lawful requirements
  • Provide assistance to employees and other public and private entities in an effort to meet their needs and build positive community relationships / resolve complaints / address conflicts
  • Maintain continuity and operational efficiency by accurate and timely dissemination of information to Staff and co-workers
  • Adhere to leave, overtime and attendance policies / procedures (i.e. arrive promptly, regular attendance at work, notification to supervisor regarding absence from work due to illness or untimely incidents, etc.)
