Job Summary: This is professional work performing field data collection and analyses as well as assisting environmental scientists in tasks related to the determination and assessment of minimum flows and levels.

Job duties include:

• Provides technical assistance to the Minimum Flows and Levels (MFLs) program which may include: field environmental assessments including the collection, compilation, and analysis of data related primarily to wetland vegetation data collection (e.g., biomonitoring, taxonomy, and ID); assisting with data analysis and drafting of technical reports describing recommended MFLs.
• Maintains a high level of expertise in disciplines relevant to MFLs; attends training workshops, appropriate professional symposia and workshops, and reads related scientific literature.
• Supports the ongoing effort to establish and implement the MFLs biomonitoring program.
• Supports MFLs project managers with technical assistance, which may include providing scientific and editorial review of reports and work products produced by MFLs staff and contractors.
• Represents the District at meetings with public and private entities; prepares and makes public presentations.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in ecology, biology, limnology, chemistry, botany, zoology, or a field directly related to natural resource management or hydroecology and two years professional experience in an environmental field.

Professional experience in environmental protection or research can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

Working Environment:

Work is split between rigorous field work and an office environment sitting at a desk and operating a personal computer to produce work products.

Periodic field visits:

Applicant must have ability to endure outdoor environments in uncomfortable temperatures, inclement weather, and remote locations.

Ability to:

Communicate and work well with others, as a team; endure harsh outdoor environments in uncomfortable/extreme temperatures, inclement weather, and remote locations; lift and/or move equipment; maintain a priority of safety, data integrity, and efficiency during sampling events; make effective, consistent, and defensible decisions in the field; operate or learn to operate vehicles/vessels to access sites (e.g. outboard motor boat, kayak, airboat, ATV and four-wheel drive truck).

Licenses:

Valid State of Florida Driver’s License.

Additional Details:

Salary Range: $47,632.00 - $59,550.40

Starting salary is based on qualifications and experience.
