Job Summary: This is professional work performing water well construction permitting and compliance.
Job duties include:
- Reviews and processes water well construction, abandonment, and repair permit applications including: conducts preconstruction onsite well siting inspections; reviews water well construction permit applications for completeness and accuracy; drafts permit related correspondence and technical staff reports; enters permit related data into the EReg system; reviews requests for permit variances; reviews well completion reports for accuracy; reviews water well contractor license applications for completeness and accuracy. Conducts onsite compliance inspections during well construction, abandonment, and repair of District-permitted wells; conducts onsite compliance inspections of delegated authority permitted wells when requested; investigates water well construction complaints; determines proper procedures for violation resolution including initiating enforcement when needed; provides continual oversight and assistance to well construction delegated authorities including conducting training well inspections and training in water well rules and methods for construction, abandonment, and repair.
- Processes simple to moderately complex Consumptive Use Permit (CUP) applications including, but not limited to, permit determination, preapplication assistance, site visits, processing applications in EReg and writing technical staff reports. Processes and assists with processing CUP permit transfers; conducts water use permit compliance and enforcement action on permit conditions; investigates complaints.
Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in geology, hydrology, engineering or related field.
A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in geology or hydrology can substitute for required experience.
Professional experience in an environmental field can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment:
A combination of conducting regular field/site visits and office work sitting at a desk and operating a personal computer to produce work products.
Periodic field visits:
Applicant must have ability to endure outdoor environments in uncomfortable temperatures, inclement weather, and remote locations.
Licenses:
Requires a valid Florida driver license.
Travel:
Requires travel to attend off-site meetings and perform field/site visits, sometimes outside of normal business hours including overnight. Ability to drive oneself.
Additional Details:
Hydrologist I: $45,864.00 – $57,324.80
Hydrologist II: $52,520.00 -- $65,644.80
Starting salary is based on qualifications and experience.
