Library and Information Science Intern
Job Summary:
This paid internship for a self-directed student in Library Information Sciences or a similar course of study.
The student will lead in defining, designing, documenting and piloting a metadata collection and data migration project for our fixed-wing aerial imagery collection using Daminion Digital Asset Management software.
Student will be supervised by a Field Program Supervisor based in Apopka, FL.
Student will have access to multiple subject matter experts involved with the collection and management of this aerial imagery data.
The Aerial Imagery Collection consists of hundreds of thousands of images and videos collected by District staff using fixed-wing aircraft over the past 30 years.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Design/develop a system, following industry standards, for organizing and cataloging new and existing items in the collection
- Demonstrate this on a subgroup of the imagery dataset
- Present findings and accomplishments at the end of the term
- Create SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) manual for successive interns, contractors or AI to use in completing the work
Minimum Qualifications:
College or university student currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program and either attending classes or participating in a work experience program sanctioned by the individual school and at least junior level and studying Library and Information Sciences, or a similar course of study.
All students must maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher.
Additional Details:
- Summer 2025 internship will run for 13 weeks. The work is 20 hours per week.
- Work schedule will be discussed during the interview process, and arranged with Supervisor
- Intern will produce brief weekly reports of activities and a presentation at end of semester to communicate their goals, objectives, recommendations and accomplishments.
Working Environment:
Mostly an office environment, sitting at a desk and operating a personal computer.
Salary: $15.00/hour
Work Location: This position will be assigned to the Apopka Service Center, 2501 S Binion Rd., Apopka FL.
