Job Summary:
The Floor Staff position is a vital role in maintaining the safety, security, and well-being of the residents. Direct Support Professional members are responsible for providing direct supervision, support, and care to residents, ensuring that house rules are followed, and assisting in the day-to-day operations of the facility. This role involves both administrative tasks and hands-on resident interaction, creating a supportive and structured environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Resident Supervision: Monitor residents' activities to ensure compliance with house rules, safety protocols, and program guidelines.
- Safety and Security: Conduct routine checks of the facility, ensuring all areas are safe, secure, and free of hazards.
- Crisis Intervention: Respond to emergencies and challenging situations calmly and professionally, providing de-escalation techniques or notifying appropriate staff or emergency services.
- Relationship Building: Establish positive relationships with residents by maintaining professional boundaries while offering support, guidance, and encouragement.
- Daily Living Support: Assist residents with daily tasks such as meal preparation, chores, and maintaining their living spaces.
- Program Support: Assist in organizing and leading activities, workshops, or life-skills programs for residents.
- Conflict Resolution: Mediate conflicts between residents when necessary, encouraging peaceful and respectful resolutions.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely records of incidents, daily logs, and resident interactions as required by program policies.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other staff members and supervisors to ensure consistent support for residents and communicate any concerns or observations about residents’ well-being.
- Adherence to Policies: Follow all program and organization policies, including confidentiality and ethical standards, to ensure the safety and integrity of the program.
- Facility Maintenance: Assist with basic cleaning and organization of common areas to maintain a healthy living environment.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or GED required. Some college coursework or degree in social work, psychology, or related field preferred, but not necessary.
- Experience: Previous experience working in a residential program, shelter, or social services environment is preferred, but not necessary.
- Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to handle stressful situations and respond appropriately to emergencies.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Certifications: CPR, First Aid, SCM Physical/Theory or other relevant certifications preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- Other Requirements:
- Ability to pass background checks, CANS Check, and drug screenings as required by program policy.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for long periods.
- Must be able to pass SCM Physical/Theory, and First Aid CPR (40 hours of training/year).
- Some light lifting may be required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes high-stress environment.
- Must be able to assist with independent living skills such as cooking, cleaning, laundry etc.
- Must be able to pass medication management training.
- Must be able to fill out an incident report.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to transport the youth at any time upon request.
- Must be able to work in any assigned location (Shelter, Yewell, Hayden) as requested by the supervisor
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $13.30 - $13.95 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 40 per week
