The Director of First Year Admissions is responsible for leading the admissions and recruitment effort towards meeting established enrollment goals for the first year student population. The Director will oversee the admissions counseling/recruitment team, execute a comprehensive recruitment strategy and manage the review of first year applications. The Director will serve as a visible, collaborative and forward facing representative for the university community and external audiences.

For this role, St. Joseph’s University, New York seeks an individual who has the following qualities and experience:

  • Proven record of building a effective admissions team and implementing best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, hire, mentor, train, develop and oversee a recruitment team
  • Ability to work with a cross-functional leadership team and collaborate to achieve goals
  • Experience and familiarity with the NYC and Long Island recruitment market
  • Experience with implementing best practices for first year application review
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to build relationships to help achieve enrollment goals
  • Knowledge of and experience with financial aid; including discounting, leveraging and monitoring progress
  • Familiarity with the technology used to carry out recruitment and admissions functions.
  • Strong work ethic and a demonstrated investment in the field
  • Possess a current understanding of enrollment marketing and strategic communication

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Plan and execute an effective recruitment strategy, by ensuring a sustained presence in all key recruitment territories and collaboration with school leaders, counselors, community-based organizations.
  • Provide leadership, oversight and direction to ensure success in planning and executing large-scale (e.g., open house) and small-scale admissions events (e.g., campus visits), with a focus on customer service, logistics and showcasing the University’s strengths.
  • Assist with the communication plan for the first year student population. Ensure that all messages are clear, concise, strategic and consistent with enrollment priorities.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of the financial aid leveraging strategy and monitor YoY pacing and progress to goals.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing for recruitment events.
  • Cultivate a data-informed culture amongst the admissions staff.
  • Employ best practices and inspire the admissions team to meet enrollment goals and provide excellent customer service.
  • Communicate with and support partners involved in the admissions/recruitment process.
  • Regularly use the tools available to monitor, assess and act on data.
  • Manage partnerships/contracts with select enrollment venders, make informed decisions and ensure maximum value.
  • Serve as a lead reviewer for first year applications, including second reads, appeals, special programs, etc
  • Assist with transfer student recruitment and application review, as needed.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Act as a strong contributor and collaborator with in the admissions and enrollment leadership team, including topics that are beyond the direct scope of first year admissions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES)

  • Knowledge of recruitment, marketing, admissions, financial aid practices.
  • Knowledge of the industry landscape (i.e., demographics, competitive landscape, venders, tools, resources, regulations, school systems, best practices, trends etc.)
  • Knowledgeable and skilled user of Technolutions, Slate
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite and Zoom.
  • Proven ability to solve problems and provide outstanding customer service
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills - ability to effectively design and present engaging and accurate presentations in-person or virtually
  • Ability to prioritize workloads according to volume, urgency, etc.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and extended hours, as needed

PREFERRED EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

At least 5 years of successful and progressive related experience. Management and supervision experience. Bachelor’s degree required.

Salary Range: $85,000 – $100,000
