Position Description
- The School Nurse contributes directly to the health education of both students and staff through activities that focus on disease prevention, health promotion and maintenance of healthy lifestyles.
- Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to students and staff.
- Provide emergency first aid and direct care for students with injuries and illnesses.
- Administer medicines, when necessary, under physician or parent instruction, with signed authorizations in place.
- Assures quality of care by adhering to local County Health Association regulations as well as the standards set forth by the state board of nursing.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Protects students and staff by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and Parish Nurse Guidelines.
- Documents student care services by maintaining student health records.
- Maintains student/parent confidence by keeping information confidential.
- Maintains nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipates needed supplies; plans and expedites orders for supplies; verifies receipt of supplies; uses equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviews professional publications; establishes personal networks; participates in professional societies
- Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information; responds to requests; builds rapport; participates in team problem-solving methods.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Act as a professional liaison between student, staff, family, physician and community agencies.
- Florida State LPN or RN Nursing license required.
- Certified in CPR, AED and Epi-Pen Training.
- Must have experience of 2 to 4 years in working with children preferably in a school setting
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong communications skills both written and oral
- Proficiency in computer activities
- Must pass a Level 2 background check with satisfactory results
