Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Nurse to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive health services to students, ensuring their well-being and promoting a healthy school environment. This role requires a strong background in patient care, particularly in outpatient and inpatient settings, along with the ability to manage health-related issues within a school context.
Responsibilities
- Assess and evaluate students' health needs through regular health screenings and assessments.
- Administer medications and provide first aid to students as necessary.
- Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans for students with chronic health conditions.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and healthcare providers to support students' health needs.
- Maintain accurate health records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Educate students and staff on health-related topics, including hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention.
- Respond to medical emergencies and coordinate care as needed, utilizing knowledge from ER and Level I Trauma Center experiences.
- Facilitate referrals to appropriate healthcare services when necessary.
- Participate in school health programs and initiatives aimed at promoting overall student wellness.
Skills
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality.
- Experience in hospital medicine, particularly in outpatient settings.
- Proficient in venipuncture techniques and other clinical skills relevant to patient care.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a school environment while maintaining professionalism.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with students, parents, and staff effectively.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently while ensuring quality care.
- Knowledge of common childhood illnesses and conditions affecting school-aged children.
