The Cook salary range reflected above is the normal hiring range for 2025. The full salary range, including longevity pay, is $23.74 - $32.89 per hour.
This position is part of the Civil Service Basic Unit Employees Collective Bargaining Agreement represented by Council 5 of AFSCME.
Please note: This Cook vacancy is a (.1 FTE) part-time position.

Duties include supervising and instructing inmates assigned to kitchen duty, preparing balanced meals, requisitioning and storing supplies. The employees in this class must be willing to work under security or lock-up conditions with inmates. The work is performed under the direction of assigned supervisory staff.

These work environment factors are general in nature and may vary depending on the specific position being filled. CONSTANT: Standing and walking. FREQUENT: Small and large motor movement including reaching, grasping, manipulating, bending, stooping, and crouching; lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds; working in a confined area with a criminal population; exposure to extreme heat, cold, noise, odors, and food preparation equipment. OCCASIONAL: Lifting and moving objects up to 50 pounds.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Pass/Fail):- High school diploma or its equivalent.
- One (1) year full-time paid verifiable food service experience in an institutional, military or large commercial kitchen, or similar setting; OR completion of a recognized cooking course.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
