A Financial Worker is responsible for determining eligibility and maintaining ongoing eligibility for public assistance programs such as the supplemental nutrition assistance program, cash, emergency assistance and healthcare. Financial Workers conduct interviews with individuals, interpret complex policy, explain benefit programs, and maintain accurate records.

The salary range reflected above is the normal hiring range for 2025. The full salary range, including longevity pay, is $23.04 - $31.69 per hour.  

This position is part of the Civil Service Basic Unit Employees Collective Bargaining Agreement represented by Council 5 of AFSCME.

St. Louis County does not provide sponsorship for employment visas.An employee in this class is responsible for administering and authorizing the accurate disbursement of Federal, State and County funds for public assistance programs. Duties include: Interviewing clients, verifying information, entering and maintaining client information on applicable computer systems, and assessing and referring clients to outside agencies and programs when appropriate. The work is performed in accordance with State, Federal and County guidelines and procedures under the supervision of a unit supervisor. These work environment factors are general in nature and may vary depending on the specific position being filled. CONSTANTSedentary, indoor work; sit; use fingers; contact with the public/clients. OCCASIONAL: Lift up to 10 pounds; use of general office equipment which may include telephone, personal computer, calculator, etc. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Pass/Fail):  
  • High School graduation or equivalent, AND possession of a valid driver's license, if needed.
RATING SYSTEM:
Computerized Written Assessment will be 100% of the scoring process:
After submitting an application, applicants will receive a notification to schedule their computerized written assessment via their candidate profile. Virtual and in person testing will be offered on the pre-determined dates listed in your candidate profile. Once applicants have logged in and scheduled their assessment another notification will be sent confirming your assessment date and time along with the test link and Webex meeting invite. 

Note: The Computerized Written Assessment must be completed by Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

To participate in the online computerized written assessment, you must have readily available picture identification, laptop or desktop computer, web cam and microphone. Calculators are permitted. However, digital cameras and other communication devices containing calculator functions are NOT permitted. Please allow 1 hour for this assessment.  

TENTATIVE RECRUITMENT & SCREENING PROCESS SCHEDULE:
  • April 17, 2025 - Applicant screening will begin
  • May 06, 2025 - Computerized Written Assessment to be completed
  • Week of May 19, 2025 - Interviews to be conducted

PHYSICAL-MEDICAL STANDARDS:

DRUG TESTING:
Applicants selected for appointment must take and pass a drug test.

BACKGROUND CHECK:
Applicants selected for appointment to a position with St. Louis County are subject to a background investigation.

EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBILITY VERIFICATION:
All new employees must submit documentation verifying identity and employment eligibility within three days of their first day of employment.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD:
Appointees to the position must successfully complete at least a nine-month probationary period prior to being certified for permanent employment.
