A Spanish Teacher at St. Louis University High School contributes to the school's Catholic and Jesuit mission by designing and implementing educational curricula in Spanish. This role encompasses supervisory, formational, and co-curricular responsibilities while supporting professional and spiritual growth expectations. This position will teach 4 sections.

Duties / Responsibilities :

  • Develop and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans aligned with the school's mission, philosophy, and curriculum guidelines in the area of Spanish
  • Utilize diverse teaching techniques to address various learning styles and foster academic success, particularly comprehensible input based methodology.
  • Prepare materials for lessons, assignments, and assessments; evaluate and provide feedback on student performance.
  • Address academic and behavioral concerns and collaborate with school leadership and support personnel to implement improvement plans.
  • Support character and spiritual formation based on the "The Graduate at Graduation" framework.
  • Partner with Student Support Services to guide students in selecting college pathways or courses of study.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within and beyond the classroom.
  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with school norms and state policies.
  • Maintain open, professional communication with parents, faculty, and staff regarding student progress and concerns.
  • Enforce safety protocols for all students, staff, and visitors.
  • Maintain accurate records, including attendance, incident reports, and student files.
  • Supervise halls, study periods, and lunchrooms; assist with other faculty tasks as needed.
  • Actively participate in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and spiritual formation activities.
  • Maintains knowledge of research, developments, and best practices in secondary education generally and Catholic and Jesuit education specifically.
  • Mentor and sponsor student activities or organizations.

Required Skills / Abilities :

  • Deep understanding of educational best practices, including Catholic and Jesuit philosophies.
  • Commitment to secondary education and adapting teaching methods to developmental needs.
  • Proven ability to design and deliver engaging lessons through various instructional methods.
  • Strong classroom management and leadership skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Organizational acumen and attention to detail.
  • Analytical and creative problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and educational technology tools, particularly Canvas.
  • Education and Experience :

  • Master's degree in Spanish Literature, Linguistics or Culture required
  • Prior teaching experience, particularly with secondary students, is highly desirable.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds as needed.
  • Capability to navigate the school campus and guide students during emergencies.
