Position Title: Children's Pastor
Reports To: Associate Pastor
Job Summary:
The Children's Pastor is responsible for leading, organizing, and overseeing the children's ministry of the church. This includes teaching, developing, and nurturing the spiritual growth of children from birth to age 13. The Children's Pastor will work closely with parents, volunteers, and other staff members to create a safe, fun, and Christ-centered environment for children to grow in their faith.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Spiritual Development:
- Lead, teach, and disciple children in a way that aligns with the church's vision and values.
- Develop and implement age-appropriate Bible teachings and curricula.
- Ensure spiritual growth through weekly lessons, activities, and events.
- Plan and lead children's worship services, including music, teaching, and activities.
- Provide guidance and support to children in their personal walk with God.
- Pray regularly for Children’s Ministry Volunteers children.
- Nurture your own spiritual growth and continue on a path of daily prayer, bible study and spiritual disciplines.
- Team and Volunteer Management:
- Recruit, train, and oversee volunteers to serve in the children's ministry.
- Oversee the Mother’s Day Out (MDO) leadership program.
- Provide leadership and support to children’s ministry volunteers, ensuring they are equipped and confident in their roles.
- Organize and schedule volunteers for weekly services and special events.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and support within the children's ministry team.
- Plan and coordinate a regular training program for all Children’s Ministry staff/teams.
- Observe, evaluate, and affirm leaders and teachers in order to help them understand strengths and to encourage them in areas where improvement is possible.
- Program and Event Planning:
- Revise and Innovate Children’s Ministry Programming for Sunday Morning to include fun, interactive, and fast-moving program that makes disciples and fosters a child’s path to spiritual growth before age 13.
- Develop and lead special events and programs such as VBS (Vacation Bible School), Parents Night Out, camps, retreats, and holiday celebrations.
- Coordinate activities that engage children in learning about God, service to others, and developing leadership skills.
- Oversee children’s ministry-related outreach programs, like community service projects, to teach kids about serving others.
- Parent and Family Engagement:
- Establish open communication with parents and families to support their children’s spiritual development.
- Offer resources and workshops for parents to help them nurture their children’s faith at home.
- Host family-oriented events and activities to encourage fellowship and strengthen the church community.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure that children’s ministry is a safe, secure, and welcoming environment using Global Methodist Church background check software on an annual basis.
- Adhere to all church policies and guidelines related to the safety and wellbeing of children.
- Maintain a clean, organized space for all children’s activities.
- Administrative Duties:
- Manage and track the children’s ministry budget, ensuring financial resources are used effectively, and oversee the use and inventory of all related supplies.
- Communicate regularly with church leadership about progress, needs, and goals of the children’s ministry.
- Handle any necessary administrative tasks related to children’s ministry programming, including scheduling, room assignments, and event planning.
Qualifications:
- A strong personal faith in Jesus Christ and a passion for working with children.
- Adherence to the St. Luke vision, values, and staff covenant.
- Proven experience in children's ministry or a related field, preferably in a church setting.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to build, lead, and collaborate with a team of volunteers.
- Organizational skills and the ability to plan and execute programs and events.
- Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate teaching methods.
- Ability to engage children in fun, creative, and educational ways.
- Familiarity with safety protocols, including background checks and child protection policies.
- A degree in ministry, education, or a related field is preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in an active environment and participate in events, games, and activities with children.
- Must be able to lift and carry materials and supplies for children's ministry programs.
- Work may require sitting, standing, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time, Sunday morning, Monday through Thursday, with occasional evenings or weekends required for special events, services, or meetings.
Compensation:
Salary is commensurate with experience. Benefits include health insurance, retirement (403-b), paid time off, and professional development.
