DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans, develops and coordinates all educational programs for the facility. Teaching all nursing related in-services.
Plans, organizes and implements general orientation program for all new employees.
Plans, develops and coordinates the 100-hour nurse aide training program.
Conducts needs assessments to identify educational needs for staff.
Participates in the development, revision and communication of policies/procedures.
Evaluates educational programs; participates in the quality assurance review of staff development activities.
Assures regulatory requirements for staff development are met.
Certified Interact Champion – promotes Interact program through education and support of staff in utilizing Interact tools.
Recommends staff development program and resource needs to administration.
Conducts regular and special in-services training sessions for all personnel, to familiarize them with new procedures, policies or improvements in resident care techniques.
Develops instructional materials for use in staff development.
Acts as liaison to other department heads in developing in-service programs.
Evaluates resident care and health care needs for residents and personnel.
Participates in problem solving process by identifying and planning teaching needs.
Acquaints self with cost control, utilization and control of supplies and equipment.
Maintains documentation describing educational programs conducted in the Nursing department and the attendance of each employee.
Coordinates student’s clinical experiences within the facility; provides orientation for visiting faculty and students.
Serves as a member of the facility Safety Committee.
QUALIFICATIONS: Current registration in the State of New York as a Registered Professional Nurse
Ability to supervise and manage personnel.
Demonstrated leadership ability.
Must function independently, have flexibility and ability to work effectively with residents, staff and support agencies.
Must have at least 3 years of nursing experience, at least one of which has been in long term care.
Evidence of teaching experience or completed courses in adult education.
Baccalaureate degree preferred.
Train-the-trainer certification.
CPR certification required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Well-lighted, well-ventilated rooms and halls.
Walks, sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently about during shift.
Exposed to infection and odors.
Subject to frequent interruptions.
Required to make independent decisions.
Must be available to periodically work more than eight (8) hours per day, or more than forty (40) hours per week.
Other related duties that may have become necessary or as directed by the supervisor, department head and/or administration.
