Position Summary
St. Luke’s Episcopal School seeks an engaging and knowledgeable Middle School History Teacher to inspire students in the study of history, geography, civics, and cultural awareness. The ideal candidate will foster critical thinking, historical inquiry, and a passion for understanding the impact of the past on the present. This teacher will be responsible for implementing a dynamic and rigorous curriculum while creating a supportive learning environment that reflects the values and mission of St. Luke’s.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement a comprehensive history curriculum for middle school students, emphasizing historical analysis, research skills, and civic engagement.
- Teach history classes following an A/B block schedule, with 80-minute periods that allow for deeper exploration of content.
- Serving as a grade-level advisor and team member managing all aspects of the grade-level experience
- Integrate primary sources, project-based learning, and interactive discussions to promote historical thinking and student engagement.
- Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Guide students in developing skills in critical analysis, debate, and historical writing.
- Collaborate with colleagues to create interdisciplinary connections, including integrating history with English Language Arts, social sciences, and other subjects.
- Incorporate technology and digital resources to enhance instruction and historical inquiry.
- Assess student learning through varied and meaningful assessments, including essays, research projects, presentations, and discussions.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues, providing regular updates on student progress.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
- Support and uphold the mission, values, and Episcopal identity of St. Luke’s Episcopal School.
- Bachelor’s degree in History, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Teaching certification and/or prior experience teaching middle school history.
- A passion for historical inquiry, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary learning.
- Strong classroom management skills and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- A growth mindset and dedication to professional development.
- Be motivated to find ways to contribute to the life of the School through coaching, sponsoring clubs, etc.
- Sense of humor and positive attitude
