Position Summary:
St. Mark's School seeks a skilled and creative history teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. The ideal candidate will have two or more years of experience teaching multiple levels of high school history. By equipping our students with the foundational skills of communication, critical thinking, and cooperation over self-interest, we advance our goal of preparing students for their future. As a history teacher, you will be a member of the history and social sciences department and report to the head of the department and the assistant head of school/ dean of faculty. We invite interested candidates to apply by completing an application at this link.
What You’ll Do as a St. Mark’s History Teacher:
As a St. Mark’s faculty member, you will teach four history courses, advise three to six students, attend all-school and faculty-required events, coach two seasons of sports. Other key responsibilities are as follows:
- Design and implement curriculum in collaboration with teams of colleagues in the History Department
- Provide students in the classroom with timely, ongoing, and meaningful feedback, including comments for each student at the end of grading periods
- Support a residential house team by supervising evening hours once weekly and five Saturday nights per year
- Participate in St. Mark’s Experiential Learning Programming
- Teach one season of Saturday classes
- Teach a Lion Term course
- Participate in community life through Social Duty (four weekends per year)
- Give up to six admission tours per year
Required Skills and Abilities
- A degree in history or a related, interdisciplinary field
- Ability to teach history from beginning to advanced levels
- Enthusiasm for work with adolescent students in multiple contexts
- Outstanding task and time management skills with high attention to detail
- Strong leadership, collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Proficiency with computer applications such as Google Suite, including Docs, Slides, and Sheets
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of experience designing and delivering assessments and curriculum materials in history.
- Experience in an educational setting, including familiarity with residential communities and the needs of adolescents
- Success working with culturally diverse populations as well as a commitment to inclusive pedagogy
- Commitment to continuous self-reflection and professional growth
- The school seeks individuals who are excited to contribute to our co-curricular programming, in particular, coaching or directing an athletic offering at the varsity level.

- Years of experience between 31 and 40 years: $90,100 - $94,900
- Years of experience between 21 and 30 years: $70,890 - $89,850
- Years of experience between 11 and 20 years: $56,670 - $68,900
- Years of experience between 0 and 10 years: $27,810 - $53,770
