Job Description
Purpose:To provide overall leadership in a school to facilitate the development of the total school community towards the goal of providing students with the highest Catholic education experience. Areas of responsibility include spiritual leadership, curriculum development, financial management, personnel management, public relations, student/teacher/program evaluations, planning and day-to-day operations.
Duties:
Develop a Catholic environment within the school where religious truths and values are integrated with life, community is developed and nurtured, and service is rendered to others.
Encourage and promote programs of worship, student activities and Catholic social action in keeping with the philosophy of the school.
Provides opportunities for teachers and staff to participate in in-service days, retreats, days of reflection, workshops in various religious and academic areas.
Employ teachers and other staff who uphold values in accordance with the Catholic philosophy of education, providing new teachers and staff with a program orientation.
Assist the teachers in achieving more fully the goals of Catholic education by supervision, classroom visitation, evaluation, and follow-up conferences.
Oversee the ongoing review and development of curricula aimed to excellence.
Oversee day-to-day administration of building and program, health and safety requirements, transportation, and all aspects of school life.
Assist the Superintendent and School Advisory Board in all matters concerning the welfare of the school.
Attend all School Advisory Board Meetings.
Carry out policies, regulations, and directives issued from the Diocesan Office of Catholic Schools, and those applicable regulations required by the State.
Develop with staff a set of annual and long-range goals and objectives.
Regularly attend seminars/courses and/or read professional publications in order to remain updated on directions, technology and trends in Catholic education.
Maintain regular communication with staff members on an informal as well as a formal (regularly scheduled staff meetings) basis to foster an atmosphere of cordiality, to keep them informed and involved in school policy and program decisions, and to acquire a better understanding of the staff members' strengths.
Encourage parental involvement in the school by providing opportunities for parent/teacher conferences and parental participation in the total educational effort.
Supervise clerical activities and auxiliary services, such as cafeteria, janitorial and maintenance service.
Maintain a continuous program of supervision and evaluation of the instructional program.
See that the school records pertaining to teachers, students, programs, finances are properly maintained and safely kept.
Foster good public relations in parish and wider community.
Maintain contact with the Diocesan Office of Catholic Schools by attending Diocesan sponsored meetings and events.
Qualifications:
Must be a practicing member of the Roman Catholic Church.
Current teaching certificate issued by the State of Michigan.
Master's degree in educational administration from an accredited college or university is preferred.
Preferred minimum of five (5) years of experience in a Catholic school.
Preferred minimum of three (3) years of administrative experience in education.
Physical Demands:
Evening and weekend hours will be required with advance notice.
Work is performed primarily in a school and office setting. Employee is required to do extensive computer work with repetitive hand motions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand, walk, talk, reach, pull, and use repetitive hand motions with hands and feet.
May be required to life up to 20 pounds.
