Employment Status: Part-time (less than 30 hours per week)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Schedule: Part-time position for weekend and evening liturgical events. Two dedicated weekdays to focus on funeral Mass and music ministry coordination.

Reports to: Pastor and Liturgist 


  

Position Summary:
The Assistant Liturgy Coordinator supports the parish's liturgical life by ensuring that all liturgical celebrations are planned, prepared, and executed in alignment with the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church. This role involves coordinating liturgical ministries, assisting with parish liturgical events, and fostering a deep understanding of liturgical theology.


Key Responsibilities:

Liturgical Planning and Coordination:

  • Assist the Liturgy Coordinator in planning and organizing all liturgical celebrations, including Sunday Masses, Holy Days of Obligation, funerals, anniversary blessings and special liturgies.
  • Schedule and communicate with liturgical ministers, including lectors, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, altar servers, and musicians.
  • Ensure proper setup and readiness of liturgical spaces, vessels, and materials.
  • Attend monthly liturgy meetings

Ministerial Development:

  • Recruit, train, and support liturgical ministers.
  • Collaborate with parishioners to encourage active participation in liturgical ministries.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining schedules and documentation for liturgical training and ongoing formation.

Formation and Continuing Education:

  • Attend workshops and conferences, such as the Southwest Liturgical Conference, to stay informed of liturgical best practices and developments.
  • Enroll and actively participate in the Lay Ministry Institute at the Oblate School of Theology to deepen theological knowledge and ministerial skills.

Funeral Ministry:

  • Dedicate two weekdays (Monday through Friday) to coordinate and prepare for funeral Masses, lead the faithful in song, ensuring sensitivity to the needs of grieving families and maintaining liturgical integrity.
  • Collaborate with bereavement ministers, clergy, and funeral homes to provide seamless support.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain an organized calendar of liturgical events and ensure timely communication with parish staff and ministries.
  • Assist in the development of worship aids, bulletins, and other liturgical resources.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and collaborate with other parish ministries to support parish goals.

Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of the liturgical principles and teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Experience in liturgical ministry, coordination, or similar roles in a parish setting.
  • Commitment to ongoing formation and spiritual growth.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, and volunteers.
  • Proficiency in basic office software and ability to learn parish-specific systems.

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; a college degree in theology, liturgy, or a related field is preferred.
  • Enrollment in the Lay Ministry Institute at Oblate School of Theology (or willingness to enroll upon hire).

Work Schedule:

  • Part-time position, for weekend and evening liturgical events.
  • Two dedicated weekdays to focus on funeral Mass and music ministry coordination.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily; must be a practicing Catholic and active in a parish; possess the ability to honor and maintain confidentiality; must work well with people of all walks of life and possess the ability to lead and train liturgical ministers 


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required 
  • Minimum of 1-2 years experience in Liturgical Ministry. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  •  Driver’s License.
