Key Responsibilities:
- Translation & Interpretation:
- Translate and interpret between Japanese and English in various modes: consecutive, telephonic, video remote, in-person, and escort interpretation.
- Translate written documents, technical manuals, and reports.
- Provide culturally accurate consultation to ensure the success of military operations.
- Test Management Support:
- Support communication during test and evaluation operations involving JDF and U.S. personnel.
- Escort foreign military personnel and act as a liaison between teams.
- Cultural Mediation:
- Offer insights into Japanese cultural norms and practices.
- Mediate communication issues to ensure seamless collaboration.
- Operational Environment:
- Perform duties in environments that may involve live ordnance and safety hazard areas.
- Adhere to strict security protocols and procedures.
Job Specifications:
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields; 3 years of professional experience in translation/interpretation (Journeyman Level).
- Preferred: Advanced certification in Japanese (e.g., JLPT N1/N2).
- Fluency in English and Japanese (written and verbal).
- Expertise in military and technical terminology.
- Strong cultural competency and interpersonal skills.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Minimum Secret Clearance for handling sensitive information.
- Familiarity with tools such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and other government-approved software.
- Capability to utilize encrypted communication channels.
Additional Requirements:
- Work Location:
- 90% at government sites (Point Mugu, CA, and San Nicolas Island, CA).
- 10% at contractor facilities within 50 miles of the Point Mugu base.
- Travel Requirements:
- Temporary assignments may include travel to Japan, Hawaii, and other specified locations.
- Compliance:
- Adherence to the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM) and DoD security regulations.
- Completion of annual Antiterrorism and Active Shooter training.
- Work Schedule:
- Compressed Work Schedule (CWS): Four 9-hour days with alternate Fridays off.
- Adjustments require prior approval.
