Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Curricular and Teaching
- Applies innovative and engaging teaching practices in a variety of subjects: language arts, mathematics, social studies and science.
- Sets learning goals that are integrated within a child-centered curriculum for each child.
- Integrates a holistic approach to teaching and learning that is rooted in the work by theorists, Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky, Arnold Gesell, and the early childhood movement from Reggio Emilia and Maria Montessori.
- Uses authentic, data-driven assessment practices to inform and guide instruction.
- Differentiates learning material to challenge and support students during whole-group and small-group instruction.
- Understands and applies the latest theories and practices in education and child development.
- Possesses an exceptional knowledge of the Science of Reading and is comfortable implementing a structured literacy approach.
- Utilizes the classroom environment as an important teaching tool.
- Integrates technology into the curriculum in a meaningful way.
- Shows dedication to social, emotional and character development of each child; strength or willingness to implement a Responsive Classroom approach.
- Works well in a teaching team; displays a positive attitude and eagerness to work collaboratively with colleagues in developing curriculum and planning for instruction.
- Partners with the grade-level team to plan and execute grade-level events throughout the year.
- Collaborates with teammates regarding students’ strengths, areas of growth and strategies implemented to ensure a cohesive educational experience for each student.
- Engages in daily communication with parents and colleagues in a manner that is professional, detailed and timely.
- Documents and communicates students' academic and social-emotional development.
- Communicates effectively with parents and establishes a team approach with the child’s family.
- Writes report cards and leads parent/teacher conferences for students to document and communicate progress.
- Shows a desire to respond to and initiate the solving of problems through clear and open conversation.
- Accepts feedback openly and is comfortable taking risks.
- Displays interest in pursuing professional development opportunities and is dedicated to professional growth.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- A collaborative and inquisitive approach to teaching and learning
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Possess a growth mindset: a positive attitude and the willingness to approach learning new skills in flexible and creative ways
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- A bachelor’s degree required
- At least two years of teaching experience required
